 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. They were arrested on Friday, April 26, 2024 in a sting operation following credible intelligence about illegal sales of dollars at the Wuse Zone 4 area of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.   The suspects are :Usman Mohammed, Abdullahi Nasir, Abubakar Saleh, Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim, Abubakar Ghadafi, Muktar Usman, Umar Abubakar Abba, Yakubu Sani, Aminu Abubakar, Muhammed Suleman Abara, Yusuf Tahir, Usman Lawal, Usman Lawal, Usman Umar, Amina Garba Rola, Muhammed Aliyu, Murtala Haruna, Sani Mohammed, Umar Farouk, Muhammed Sagiuru, Aminu Salisu, Lawal Bello, Munzali Hashim, Jamilu Suleiman, Mustapha Umar, Mubarak Tanimu, Adamu Garba, Mohammed Usman, Bello Musa, Saleh Moha

BAYELSA: SUPREME COURT TO HEAR APC'S REQUEST FOR JUDGMENT REVIEW FEBRUARY 26.{PHOTOS}.

       The Supreme Court has scheduled hearing for this Wednesday (February 26) in the application by the All Progressives Congress (APC) seeking among others, a review of its Feb ruary 13, 2020 judgment disqualifying the party’s candidate in the last governorship election in Bayelsa State, Lyon David Pereworimin. The Nation learnt on Sunday that the Registry of the Supreme Court has communicated the date of hearing to parties. It was however not clear on Sunday whether or not respondents to the APC’s application have filed their responses to the application. In the application filed on February 20, 2020 by its team of lawyers led by Wole Olanipekun (SAN), the APC wants the Supreme Court to set aside some portions of its judgment. They include where it “wrongly” held that the Federal High Court disqualified its governorship candidate along with its deputy governorship candidate; and where it held that joint ticket of its candidates was vitiated by the disqualification of the deputy

LAGOS RECORDS MASSIVE DROP IN FATAL ACCIDENTS AFTER 'OKADA' RESTRICTION.{PHOTO}.#PRESS RELEASE.

       The Lagos State Government has affirmed that there has been a massive drop in the rate of fatal accidents involving commercial motorcycles, popularly known as ‘Okada’, since the restriction of their movements in six Local Governments comprising of 475 routes including major roads, highways and bridges across the State. A statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso  disclosed that data from the State Police Command confirmed that Okada-rider accidents reduced from 19 in January 2020 before the restriction order to one between February 1st and 20th. “The February lone accident, which happened on 02/02/2020 at about 1200 hours, involved a Hovo Sino Trailer with registration number GWL-315-XA, driven by one Shaibu Abdullahi, allegedly knocked down a Bajaj Motorcycle with registration number SMK-386-QA along Sagamu Road, by Cele Bus-Stop, Ikorodu”, the Commissioner said.       Lagos State Government, through the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency, HEFAMAA, shut down 20 health facilities in the month of January for non-compliance with regulatory standards. The Executive Secretary, HEFAMAA, Dr. Abiola Idowu, made the disclosure after a recent enforcement exercise carried out by the agency, stressing that the State government remains committed to sustaining the fight against the engagement of unqualified personnel in health facilities and will continue to insist on a suitable environment for the dispensation of medical care for promotion and maintenance of good health. Idowu warned that the government will not tolerate any form of illegal health practices in the State, saying that “health security, an integral part of public security is the primary duty of the government”.
