 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. They were arrested on Friday, April 26, 2024 in a sting operation following credible intelligence about illegal sales of dollars at the Wuse Zone 4 area of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.   The suspects are :Usman Mohammed, Abdullahi Nasir, Abubakar Saleh, Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim, Abubakar Ghadafi, Muktar Usman, Umar Abubakar Abba, Yakubu Sani, Aminu Abubakar, Muhammed Suleman Abara, Yusuf Tahir, Usman Lawal, Usman Lawal, Usman Umar, Amina Garba Rola, Muhammed Aliyu, Murtala Haruna, Sani Mohammed, Umar Farouk, Muhammed Sagiuru, Aminu Salisu, Lawal Bello, Munzali Hashim, Jamilu Suleiman, Mustapha Umar, Mubarak Tanimu, Adamu Garba, Mohammed Usman, Bello Musa, Saleh Moha

        The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal office, on Friday, March 16, 2018, arraigned Kayode Odukoya , Managing Director, FirstNation Airways before Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja on a four-count charge bordering on forgery, use of false information, perjury and stealing to the tune of N1, 741, 994, 962.04 (One Billion, Seven Hundred and Forty- one M illion, Nine Hundred and Ninety -four Thousand, Nine Hundred and Sixty -two Naira, Four Kobo). The defendant allegedly forged the Memorandum of Loss of Lagos State Certificate of Occupancy in respect of a property located in Lagos, so it could be acted upon as genuine. One of the counts reads: "That you, Kayode Odukoya, on or about the 21st day of March, 2013 in Lagos within the Lagos Judicial Division knowingly forged the Memorandum of Loss of Lagos State Certificate of Occupancy Registered as No. 33 at page 33 in Volume 1011 at the Lagos State Registry, Alaus

        The attention of the Honourable Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, has been drawn to bogus and unverified media reports on the purported cancellation of the Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) signed by the Federal Government with Project Developers in the power sector. The Minister wishes to state unambiguously that the Federal Government has not cancelled the PPAs as wrongly reported by the media. It MUST be emphasised that the role of negotiating with Project Developers and signing PPAs is domiciled with the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET) Plc and not the Federal Ministry of Finance. However, as the primary obligor of all forms of guarantees issued by all governments of the federation and their agencies, the Federal Ministry of Finance through the Debt Management Office, MUST estimate the size of obligation that it is willing and able to accommodate in relation to the Power Sector. NIGERIAN TROOPS ARRESTED 7 SUSPECTS, RECOVER WEAPONS IN CLASH AT MIANGO COMMUNITY ON WEDNESDAY.{PHOTOS}.

       Troops of 3 Division Garrison Jos Plateau State arrested 7 suspects and recovered weapons in the clash between Miango community and herdsmen at Rafiki Village on Wednesday 14 March 2018. The troops responded to distress calls to the clash reported by locals. As troops moved in to settle the dispute, the herdsmen opened fire on troops convoy. 2 soldiers paid the supreme price. 7 suspects were arrested   in connection with the clashes. While conducting search, troops discovered 23 dead bodies at Mararaba Dare shortly before Rafiki Village and many civilians were wounded. 2 other soldiers wounded are receiving medical attention at 3 Division Military Hospital and Medical Services. They are stable. Weapons recovered include one Ak 47 assault rifle with 26 rounds of 7.62mm special and One locally made single barrel loaded with 15 rounds. ACCIDENT ALONG UMUNZE/UMUCHU ROAD CLAIMS ONE VICTIM ON WEDNESDAY.{PHOTOS}.

      A terrible accident happened on wednesday along the Umuchu/Umunze road near Nzeakor Obi filling station. According to reports, the mishap claimed the life of 1 person (a middle-aged woman) who died on the spot. According to some eye-witnesses, the accident occurred when a Honda CRV jeep on top speed lost control and veered off the road, collided with an electric pole and some motorcyclists before finding its way into a nearby bush. The body of the unidentified woman has been evacuated to a nearby morgue as at press time.More photos below.
