 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. Apapa-led Labour Party faction calls for arrest of Peter Obi, agitators of interim government As the leadership crisis rocking the Labour Party (LP) heightens, the Bashiru Lamidi Apapa-led faction of the party has declared that nothing can stop the inauguration of the President-elect, Sen Bola Ahmed Tinubu on May 29th as the next President of Nigeria. The LP faction also called on the Nigerian Military, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Alkali Baba and the DSS to immediately arrest anyone, including the presidential candidate of the LP, Peter agitating for an interim government. The Lamidi Apapa faction further called that any other person moving and clamouring to stop the transition process and the inauguration of President-Elect, Bola Tinubu on May 29 2023 should be arrested and prosecuted no matter his or her status in the society.

Assault: Femi Falana to defend Seun Kuti; says singer may turn self in on Monday Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, says Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, has sought his legal services following the singer’s assault on a police officer.  In an interview with Punch, Falana said the singer has enough evidence to defend himself. “I am his lawyer and he has briefed me. He certainly has evidence. This is not the first time he is dealing with the police.” Falana also stated that the singer would turn himself in on Monday, May 15.  “He is going to report himself to the police tomorrow morning. There is no problem at all.” It could be recalled that Falana represented the singer’s father Fela during his agitation against the Nigerian government, which resulted in his own arrest in 1993. Four arrested as bank staff pushes debtor’s wife to death.  Four staff of ZEFA Microfinance Bank have been arrested after one of them pushed a 50-year-old Vivian Omo, the wife of their debtor which led to her death. The suspects whose bank is situated at Abule Ijoko Lemode area of Ifo local government area of Ogun state reportedly went to the house of their debtor and started packing the belongings of the defaulter. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday. Oyeyemi explained that the four suspects have been arrested by men of the state police command. The PPRO said the suspects; Badmus Olalekan, Ajibade Oludare, Eniola Aduragbemi and Femi Oloko were arrested on Wednesday. On Seun Kuti Saga, Temper Justice With Mercy, Singer Mr P Begs Police Singer Paul Okoye of PSquare, aka Mr. P, has pleaded with the police to temper justice with mercy over the case of his colleague, Seun Kuti, who was filmed assaulting a policeman. In the video that emerged on Saturday, Kuti was seen pointing to the unidentified police officer before proceeding to push and slap the officer. The police, however, have called for the singer’s arrest following the viral video. Missing Franklyn Chioma-Blessing Found In Port Harcourt.  Police have rescued a 12-year-old girl, Franklyn Chioma-Blessing, who was declared missing in Port Harcourt this week. Chioma-Blessing was rescued from a forest in Igboo-Kingdom, Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State. She was reported to have left her house on Thursday for school but never got to the school. Our correspondent gathered that earlier on Saturday; operatives of the Nigeria Police stormed a forest in Igboo-Etche where the victim was rescued. It is unclear if Chioma-Blessing was kidnapped for ransom or for other reasons. The state Police Command has promised to brief journalists on the development. Fire razes Agbeni market in Ibadan.  An early morning fire on Sunday razed popular Agbeni market in Ibadan, Oyo State. Reports have it that the fire started at about 04:30am, on Sunday. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. When contacted, the state General Manager of Fire Services, Yemi Akinyemi, confirmed the incident, saying “we received the distress call at exactly 04:37hrs through Sunday Ogundele, Access Bank security that Agbeni market is on fire. “Our men are still battling with the job, we are grateful to Central Bank of Nigeria that allows us to use their water supply. Everything is under control. They are still going to CBN to replenish”, he confirmed.

 Zamfara Workers Organise Special Prayers Over Non-Payment Of Salaries Some civil servants in Zamfara State observed special prayers at the Eid mosque in Gusau, the state capital, on Saturday.  Daily Trust reports that the workers who converged on the mosque around 10 a.m. sought divine intercession over their salaries. The workers said they were last paid in January and were finding it difficult to meet up with their demands. “Many of us have been pushing to be beggars, unable to eat one square meal a day. So, this prayer session is specially meant to commit our dear governor, Head of Service, members of the House of Assembly and all those concerned, for God to enable them to have compassion on us. “We have suffered enough on account of this struggle, many lost their lives too and we want it no more. We have gathered in unison devoid of religious affiliations to sincerely seek God’s intervention for all,” one of them who craved anonymity said. One more photo below.

Nigerian Chef To Break Guinness World Record A chef from Akwa Ibom State, Hilda Baci, who is the CEO of My Food by Hilda is on a quest to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking time. The 27-year-old Entrepreneur on Thursday set up a four-day 'cook-a-thon' at Amore Gardens, Lekki, Lagos State.
