The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. The incident occurred about 7.45pm on Sunday, August 27 almost an hour after the Director-General, Hon. Walamam Sam Igrubia, alongside some BYSEMA personnel, left the warehouse premises. During the 2022 flood in the state, the Agency used the warehouse to store food items.   Man shot dead as soldiers and ‘omo onile’ boys clash in Lagos A yet-to-be-identified man was allegedly sh0t d£ad by soldiers in the Ebute Meta/Otto area of Lagos mainland following a clash with some boys said to be  omo onile (land owners) on Saturday, August 26, 2023.  It was gathered that the soldiers were deployed to secure some Chinese workers carrying out maintenance construction along the railway tracks but some boys in the area tried to stop the work.  A source in the area told Punch that the boys were always having issues with the construction workers. “The Chinese workers have stopped using the police because they feel like the police could not handle the boys. Flooding: Nasarawa Govt To Demolish Over 300 Illegal Structures. Nasarawa State Government has concluded plans to commence demolition of over 300 structures constructed along water ways to check floodings. Chief Environmental Officer of the state Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed gave this indication while briefing newsmen after the monthly environmental sanitation in Lafia the state capital. NMA Zamfara State To Begin Strike Next Month The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has issued a one week ultimatum to Zamfara State Government to pay outstanding salaries of its members, increase manpower and 15 months third party deduction or they withdraw service in both Federal, state and private hospitals across the state. This was contained in a communique issued by the NMA at the end of their extended Executive Council Meeting jointly signed by chairman of the Association, Dr Sanusi Bello and secretary, Dr Murtala Muhammad S and made available to Radio Nigeria in Gusau. In the communique, the NMA Zamfara state branch as a critical stakeholder cannot fold its arms and allow the state government to continue the nonchalant attitude against its members who were denied their Salary for eight months while others received less than 50% of their monthly salary.  France Bans ‘Abaya’ Clothing In Public Schools France will no longer condone the use of the loose-fitting, full-length robe commonly used by Muslim females in state-run schools. Education Minister, Gabriel Attal, who made the announcement on national television, said, “It will no longer be possible to wear an abaya at school”. Mr Attal said he would give “clear rules at the national level” to schools ahead of the return to classes nationwide from September 4. “You enter a classroom, you must not be able to identify the religion of the students by looking at them,” he said. In March, 2004, the wearing of signs or outfits by which students ostensibly show a religious affiliation in schools was outlawed, which include; large crosses, Jewish kippas and Islamic headscarves.

NEMA Alerted over Cameroon’s plan to open Lagdo Dam The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has alerted the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) over likelihood of flooding along the River Benue basin. A letter signed by the Ministry’s Director of African Affairs, Umar Salisu, reads “the Cameroonian government plans to “open the flood gates of the Lagdo Dam on the Benue River in days ahead.” It states that this is due to the heavy rainfall “around the dam catchment area in Northern Cameroon”. PHS On Standby Over New COVID-19 variant The Port Health Services (PHS) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, is on standby to prevent the importation of the new COVID-19 variant into the country. A week ago, the World Health Organisation (WHO) placed the new COVID-19 variant (BA.2.86) under monitoring due to the multiple mutations it presents after a few sequences of the variant were reported across Israel, Denmark, and the United States. Recently, the variant was reported in Switzerland, South Africa, and the United Kingdom (UK). Court Jails Six Internet Fraudsters in Benin City Six internet fraudsters - Kelvin Eghosa Osadebawen, Akhere Jeffery, Akhabue Bright, Destiny Akhere, Erahon Emmanuel Imuentinyan and Ekhator Osamudiamen Favour - were on Monday, August 28 convicted and sentenced to priosn by Justice M. Itsueli of Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City. They were arraigned separately on one count charge of impersonation and possession of fraudulent documents by the Benin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Their road to prison began following their arrest by operatives of the Commission based on actionable intelligence. During the investigation, Imuentinyan, 21, was discovered to have impersonated Gary Sinise, an American in order to defraud one Diane Quigley. On his part, 23 -year-old Bright represented himself as Chang Wang in an attempt to defraud unsuspecting victims. The others were found to be in possession of fraudulent documents. EFCC Arrests Five for Forging ONSA, AGF’s Letterhead The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on August 24, 2023 arrested five people for allegedly using forged letterheads of the Offices of the National Security Adviser and the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice to fraudulently obtain money from unsuspecting members of the public. The suspects are Mr. Yakubu Hamza Mohammed, Mr. Bashir Ladan, Mr. Adamu Ibrahim, Mr. Steven Anom and Mr. Mohammed Bello. They allegedly conspired and used the letterheads to produce fake employment and recommendation letters for a fee, to unsuspecting members of the public. EFCC Arrests Six Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Abuja The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC have arrested six suspected internet fraudsters in Bwari and Dutse axes of Abuja. The suspects were arrested today, August 28, 2023 following an intelligence report on their alleged cybercrime-related activities. They are: Odey John Paul, 25, Greg Ajima Odey, 23, Julius Okpanachi, 21, Ugbede Opaluwa, 25, Okpanachi Emmanuel, 25, and Mohammed Abba, 26. Items recovered from the suspects include two Toyota Camry and one Mercedes Benz C300 cars, twelve mobile phones and three laptops. Insecurity: KTSG bans motorcycle, tricycle night movement in 19 LGs 28th Aug 2023  The Katsina State Government has banned the use of commercial motorcycles and tricycles in the night across 19 Local Governments (LGs) as part of efforts to enhance security. A statement by Alhaji Nasiru Mu’azu, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, said that the ban was from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. “The order affects LGs fully affected by banditry and other related crimes. “Among them are Sabuwa, Dandume, Funtua, Faskari and Bakori. “Others are Kankara, Danja, Kafur, Malumfashi, Musawa, Matazu, Danmusa, Safana and Dutsinma. “Also affected are Kurfi, Charanchi, Jibia, Batsari and Kankia. “Members of the public must understand that the purpose of the order is for the restoration of permanent peace in the affected areas,” the statement said.

Police begin manhunt of man threatening traditionalists in Kwara 28th Aug 2023 Kwara State Police Command has begun a manhunt for a Muslim cleric, identified as Alfa Ismaila Ayodeji, for allegedly threatening to harm some traditionalists in Ilorin, the state capital. The man, in a circulated three-and-a-half-minute video, had visited a shop said to be owned by a female traditionalist and where fairly used TV sets are sold in Alaran community in Ilorin. The man, accompanied by some others, was seen in the video boasting that the state commissioner of Police, Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi, was aware of his visit to the shop. The Muslim cleric accused the traditionalists of holding traditional religion (Isese) meetings inside the shop as against selling TV sets. He also told the Alaran community, which rented out the shop to the female shop occupant and her people, as shown in the video, to issue a quit notice ro the tenant and refund the rent. The warehouse located along Isaac Boro Expressway in Yenagoa, the state capital, was looted by people said to be angered due to the hardship in the country occasioned by the removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise known as petrol by the Federal Government. The subsidy removal moved up the prices of petrol from around N190 to about N620 per litre and has adversely affected the prices of goods and services as well as transport fares. He asked about the burial of the total of 10 victims of last Wednesday’s plane crash, according to the Interfax agency. “As soon as a decision is made, it will probably be made public,” Peskov added.  Moment Security Aide Blocked Shaibu From Accessing Obaseki There was a mild drama on Sunday when a security aide to Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, stopped his deputy, Philip Shaibu, from accessing his principal. This happened at the 32nd anniversary of Edo State, held at the New Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City, Edo State. In the photos obtained on Monday, a security operative was seen blocking Shaibu's access to Obaseki during the event. But speaking after the event, Shaibu had pledged his loyalty to his principal, despite their rift. This is coming after weeks of dispute between the governor and his deputy. Nigerians in severe pain, Anglican bishop laments The Bishop of Ibadan Diocese, the Most Reverend Joseph Akinfenwa, has said the current economic environment has thrown many Nigerians into severe pain despite the promise that it will be for a short time. Akinfenwa stated this in his sermon at a service during which the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba, consecrated four new bishops for the church at the Archbishop Vining Memorial Cathedral Church, Ikeja, Lagos on Sunday. Among those consecrated are the new Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Lagos, Ifedola Okupevi; and the new Bishop of Akoko Edo Diocese, Ebenezer Saiki. Others are Venerable Collins Babalola of the Anglican Diocese of Ajayi Crowther and Venerable Festus Nwafili of Ndokwa Diocese.
