 Court Sends Seven Internet Fraudsters to Prison in Benin City Justice Efe Ikponmwonba of Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 convicted and sentenced seven internet fraudsters to various jail terms. The convicts are Ayokunle Victor, Enoferodion Kingsley Osadebamwen, Endurance Igbineweka, Ale Emmanuel Mayowa, Ojo Wonder Toluwani, Okolie Kelechi Kingsley and Olaleye Joshua Ayomide. They were jailed after pleading guilty to one-count separate charge bordering on obtaining by false pretences when they were arraigned by the Benin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. The charge against Osadebamwen reads: “that you Kingsley Enoferodion Osadebamwen (m) on or about 10th day of February, 2024 in Benin City, Edo State within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did have in your possession documents which you knew or ought to have known contain a false pretence and thereby committed an offence contrary to Sections 6 and 8

 September 26, 1992 Ejigbo plane crash only survivor is dead Squadron Leader Michael Oladipupo Adefemi, the only officer that survived or rather escaped death on Saturday September 26, 1992 plane crash, the Nigerian Air Force Lockheed C-130H Hercules with serial number 911, died this morning.  That plane had graduates of 19, 20, 21 and 22 Class of the Nigeria Defence Academy, Kaduna and some foreign officers. The graduate officers were President Babaginda’s dream to professionalize and replace all senior military officers that he intended should be retired then. The plane had 157 passengers in all, not minding the fact that it had a capacity of only 110 passengers without luggage.  After the plane crash there were serious allegations and rumors that president IBB had a hand in the crash. Thank God for research works like the one I did that went the extra mile to unravel events that happened and we were able to come out with the facts.  An active member of the United States military has set himself on fire outside the Israeli embassy in Washington, DC, according to officials, in an apparent act of protest against Israel’s devastating war on Gaza. Aaron Bushnell, 25, was rushed to the hospital on Sunday with “critical life-threatening injuries”, according to the US capital’s fire department. The agency said emergency responders rushed to the scene just before 1pm (18:00 GMT) in response to a “call for person on fire outside the Israeli embassy”. They arrived to find that officers from the US Secret Service had already extinguished the fire. The US Air Force confirmed the incident involved an active duty airman. US media reports said Bushnell livestreamed himself on Twitch, wearing fatigues and declaring he would “not be complicit in genocide” before dousing himself in liquid. He then lit himself on fire while yelling “Free Palestine!” until he fell to the ground. The footage has since been removed from Twitch. Local

 On Civil Service Reforms and Cutting the Cost of Governance President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the implementation of the 2012 Oronsaye Report, which proposes reforms to the Civil Service and aims to reduce the cost of governance. The report recommends the scrapping, modification, and subsuming of some agencies, commissions, and departments, as well as moving some entities from one ministry to another to improve their operations. To ensure the swift implementation of the proposed changes, a committee has been set up with the mandate to implement the mergers, scrappings, and relocations within 12 weeks. The Oronsaye Report contains several recommendations on Federal Government parastatals, commissions, and agencies, both statutory and non-statutory.

 Highlights of Federal Executive Council decisions on  Monday 26 February Here are some of the highlights of the far reaching decisions taken today at the Federal Executive Council meeting, chaired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. 1. FEC approved construction of Lagos-Port Harcourt-Calabar Coastal Superhighway to Messrs Hitech Construction Africa. The First phase made up of 47 kms will begin in Lagos. 2. The Federal High Court in Abuja has asked the Nigerian government to the list of their witnesses to prove the trumped up treasonable felony charges brought against the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu. Nnamdi Kanu’s special counsel, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor revealed this on Monday after he filed a fresh bail application to secure the release of his client. He said the court is ready to open the hearing stage of the trial and has ordered the prosecuting team to file all their processes including their witnesses’ statements on oath.   NECO Releases 2023 SSCE EXTERNAL Results February 26, 2024. The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2023 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External results. The examination body also said that it blacklisted two supervisors in Oyo and Lagos states and one examination centre in Borno state for being involved in examination malpractices in the 2023 SSCE external. NECO’s Registrar/Chief Executive, Professor Dantani Wushishi disclosed this while briefing journalists in Minna during the release of the 2023 SSCE external results. According to him, the two supervisors were blacklisted for poor supervision, inability to control the candidates, and aiding and abetting while the centre in Borno was blacklisted for aiding and abetting for sharing WhatsApp messages with candidates. The MOU which was initialed by the Commissioner Environment and Water Resources Tokunbo Wahab and Executive Chairman JOSPONG Group, Dr Joseph Agyepong will amongst other things establish a Material Recovery Facility to reduce downstream pressure (waste disposal volume) at landfills. The MOU will also involve putting in place Compact /Mobile Transfer loading stations to replace current stationary plants and reduce waste at pressure points such as markets.  Three siblings died of suffocation inside a car parked in their residential quarters in Ilorin, Kwara State.  The incident occurred at about 2pm on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at Sango-Kulende quarters, Ilorin, when the children, a boy and two girls, locked themselves in the stationary car, said to have been borrowed by their father from his sister. It was gathered that the mother of the children, who had gone out to buy something, returned to find them inside the locked car. She raised an alarm and forced the doors of the car open, after discovering the footwears of her children outside the parked car. An eyewitness said that the three children were rushed to Olutayo Clinic, very close to their residence for medical attention.  Maritime workers to shut seaports for NLC protest The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria said it will join the two-day nationwide protest being organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress. This was contained in a statement on Monday by the Head of Media, MWUN, Kennedy Ikemefuna. Ikemefuna said the move was necessary following the directive of NLC that its affiliate members across the nation should strictly comply. On February 16, the NLC announced the nationwide protest scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday over the alleged government’s failure to implement agreements reached between both parties on October 2, 2023, following the removal of the fuel subsidy. The decision followed the conclusion of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government to implement measures against the widespread hardship.
