 Outcries Over State Recognised Vigilantes In North-West   The security outfits established by various state governments, especially in the North-West, are being accused of indiscriminate arrests and killing of suspects, as well as innocent people without recourse to judicial processes, findings by Daily Trust Saturday revealed. But those charged with the responsibility of managing the outfits have debunked the claims of extrajudicial killings, though some admitted what they described as “overzealousness” by some of the operatives. It was alleged that in some states, long lists of suspected bandits, their supporters or sympathisers have been arrested and ultimately killed, and such acts are allegedly being carried out without recourse to the police and other law enforcement agencies. HOODLUMS DISRUPT RERUN ELECTION IN ENUGU. (PHOTO).

 Hoodlums disrupt rerun election in Enugu Hoodlums on Wednesday disrupted the Enugu rerun election for Enugu South 1 State Constituency, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed. INEC said this in a short note on its verified X social media handle on Wednesday. “Report from our Enugu State office indicates that hoodlums have disrupted the electoral process in the state constituency. “Fortunately, no casualties were reported, but election materials were destroyed, and voters were obstructed from casting their votes. “Our officials have been safely evacuated with assistance from security agencies. “In contrast, the supplementary election in the Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency of Taraba State is unfolding peacefully across three local government areas,” it added.

 EFCC Arrests 14 FUTA Undergraduates, 19 Others for Suspected Internet Fraud Operatives of the Benin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested fourteen undergraduates of the Federal University of Technology,  Akure, Ondo State.   They were arrested alongside nineteen( 19) others in the early hours of Wednesday,  February 14,  2024 for suspected internet crimes. The suspects were arrested at different residential locations within Akure metropolis following  intelligence  on their alleged nefarious activities. Specifically, the sting operation that yielded their arrest was a response to strident calls to the EFCC by neighbours and parents around the locations, to save their children from being lured into internet-related activities by the suspects. Items recovered at the point of arrest include ten exotic cars, phones, laptops and one motor bike. The suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.  Court Jails 15 for Internet Fraud in Ibadan Justices Olusola Adetujoye, O.A. Lajide and S.O. Adeyemi of the Oyo State High Court, sitting in Ibadan have convicted and sentenced 15 internet fraudsters to various jail terms.  They were jailed after pleading guilty to one-count separate charges upon their arraignment by the Ibadan Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, between January 22 and February 5, 2024.  One of the convicts,  Adebola Sherrif was docked and convicted  on five-count charges. The other convicts are: Adebayo Ifeoluwa Timilehin, Philip Daniel, Ifemadi Haruna Segun, Okeola Olajide James Bolanle, Akinjisola Ayodeji Francis, Giwa Usman Dolapo, Olorunsola Sodiq Babatunde, Fatolu Moses Opeyemi, Bashiru Sodiq Omobolaji, Omowaye Oluwatosin Olamilekan, Badmus Yusuf Omobolaji, Lateef Ramon Olamilekan, Idowu Michael Oluwasegun and Okunola Samuel Olalekan.  TROOPS  BURST ANOTHER RIFLE FABRICATION FACTORY IN PLATEAU, RECOVER CACHE OF ARMS AND AMMUNITION In it's determination to clear troubled regions of Plateau State from criminal activities, Troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN under HAKORIN DAMISA IV during a clearance operations on rugged mountainous terrain discovered an isolated structure which turned out to be a weapons fabrication factory situated on a high ground in Pakachi Village, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. During the operation, a significant number of illicit firearms and related equipment were recovered and one suspect apprehended. The operation resulted in the arrest of Mr. Tapshak Plangji, a 25-year-old male, suspected to be involved in the illegal activities at the factory. The alleged owner of the facility, Mr. Nuhu Meshack, is currently at large and efforts are underway to bring him to justice.  UK Partner Nigeria To Boost Trade, Investment                     The UK has signed an Enhanced Trade and Investment Partnership ETIP with Nigeria to boost trade and investment between the two countries and unlock new opportunities for UK and Nigerian businesses.  UK Secretary of State Kemi Badenoch signed the ETIP alongside her Nigerian counterpart Nigerian Trade Minister Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite in Abuja.  A statement by the British High Commission in Abuja explains that the Enhanced Trade and Investment Partnership ETIP is the first the UK signed with an African country and is designed to grow the UK and Nigeria’s already thriving trading relationship, which totalled 7 billion pounds.  It states that the arrangement will pave the way for opportunities in sectors crucial to both economies such as finance and legal services as well as foster new collaborations in innovative areas like the creative industry.  The visit by the Secretary of State comes a week ahead of a UK Government-l
