 Noise pollution: Lagos seals five churches, 19 hotels The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency has temporarily shut down no fewer than five churches and 19 hotels over noise pollution between March 23 and April 26  Calculations by our correspondent also showed that no fewer than four markets and shopping complexes were also shut down over noise pollution and other environmental infractions. BENUE GOVT DEMOLISHES ALLEGED KIDNAPPERS BUILDING LINKED TO EX-CHIEF JUDGE Benue State Government has demolished a property allegedly belonging to a former Chief Judge of the state for being used by kidnappers. The demolition followed the arrest of two out of the four suspects in the failed kidnap attempt that was busted by the Benue State Police Squad in Makurdi, the state capital. Channels Television observed that the affected property is not a structurally defective building but a residential apartment along the Makurdi-Gboko Road It is being pulled down under the supervision of security officials after investigations revealed that it has become a hideout where kidnappers hold their victims hostage. The property is purportedly owned by a former CJ of the state but occupied by four tenants who allegedly turned out to be members of a kidnap syndicate. Court Sentences Kidnap Kingpin, Wadume To Seven Years Imprisonment Wadume was convicted by the trial judge for unlawfully dealing in prohibited firearms and for escaping from prison custody. The Office of the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice had earlier brought the criminal prosecution before Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court in Abuja. After the trial lasted for three years, Nyako convicted Wadume on counts two and 10 of the 13-count charge brought against him and six others. Meanwhile, Justice Nyako, on July 22, 2022 delivered judgement on other defendants in the charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/30/2020, which are: Aliyu Dadje (a police inspector), Auwalu Bala (aka omo razor), Uba Bala (aka Uba Delu), Bashir Wazlri (aka baba runs), Zubairu Abdullahi (aka Basho) and Rayyanu Abdul. SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson of the state police command, said the man was almost lynched in the Ijora Badia area of the state today August 15, by a mob who accused him of being a terrorist. EFCC, Army Arrest 120 Suspected Oil Thieves in Port Harcourt Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Port Harcourt Zonal Command,  have arrested one hundred and twenty suspects for alleged illegal oil bunkering in a joint operation with with personnel of the 6 Division Garrison, Nigerian Army Port Harcourt They were arrested on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Ndoni, Rivers State where suspected illegally refined stolen petroleum products are off-loaded into vehicles at the waterfronts for distribution within and outside Rivers State. The arrest of the suspects was made possible by intelligence on the alleged illegal oil bunkering activities in the locality. In the course of the arrest, 8 vehicles and pumping machines were recovered. The suspects will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded.  More photos below.
