  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.     The Ekiti State Government on Wednesday confirmed that the Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has gone on isolation for treatment after testing positive to COVID-19. The Commissioner for Information and values Orientation, Aare Muyiwa Olumilua gave the confirmation in Ado Ekiti during a press briefing on the activities of COVID-19 taskforce in the State. Governor Fayemi had earlier on Wednesday announced his COVID-19 positive result via his verified twitter handle, assuring Ekiti people that  he  was okay and already self-isolating at home and receiving medical care. The Governor, according to the Commissioner is in high  spirits,  asymptomatic and participated in the virtual Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday.      The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal Office, on Monday, July 20, 2020 arraigned nine suspected Illegal oil dealers and a Vessel, M. V. Laida, before Justice Muslim S. Hassan of the Federal High Court, sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos on three-count charges bordering on conspiracy and illegal dealing in 351 metric tonnes of Automative Gas Oil, (AGO ). The defendants: Stephen John Degbe; Bod e Shofela; Emmanuel Esalet; Aderibigbe Jeje; Peter Atijere Ekpe; Dayang Nantok Ibrahim; Adewunmi Oguntifa, Samuel Alabi were arrested alongside the vessel by the Nigeria Navy and subsequently handed over to the EFCC for further investigation and prosecution. One of the counts read: “That MV. Laida, Stephen John Degbe, Bode Shofela, Emmanuel Esalet, Aderibigbe Jeje, Peter Atijere Ekpe, Dayang Nantok Ibrahim, Adewunmi Oguntifa, Samuel Alabi on the 30th December 2019, within the jurisdiction of this honorable court, without appropriate licence attempted to export 351 metric

      The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Enugu Zonal office on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, secured the conviction of five internet fraudsters namely, Benjamin Chukwuma Anyaegbusi (A.K.A Wilma Clark); Obi Odinaka (A.K.A Michael Groote); Shamgar Ifejindu ( A.K.A Karen Erika) Meze Michael (A.K.A Lea Felicitas) and Franklin Ibeh (A.K.A Amelia Shoes) before Justice I. Buba of the Federal High court, sitting in Enugu, Enugu sta te on one count charge each bordering on internet fraud. The convicts, who were arrested in Awka , Anambra State, were arraigned on July 21. 2020 wherein they all pleaded guilty as charged by the EFCC. Justice Buba after reviewing the charges against the convicts, found them guilty and handed two years imprisonment each to them, or an option of fine of Five Hundred Thousand (N500, 000), each.        The Lagos State Safety Commission COVID-19 Enforcement Taskforce team, was on Sunday attacked and shot at during an enforcement exercise at Osigold Hotels & Bar in Baruwa Ipaja, Lagos. Speaking on the incident, the Director-General of the Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, disclosed that the Hotel had over 100 people clubbing and dancing within the premises when the team visited, thereby flouting the State gove rnment's directive and contravening the infectious disease Law of the State. The DG said, “In our attempt to enforce compliance of the State government's order against large public gatherings at the Osigold Hotels & Bar in Baruwa Ipaja, Lagos, on Sunday, the security staff attacked and shot at our team”.     Today, The Duke of Edinburgh has been succeeded as Colonel-in-Chief of @TheRiflesRegiment by The Duchess of Cornwall, in a ceremony which took place at both Windsor Castle and Highgrove House. The Duke has been Colonel-in-Chief of successive Regiments that have made up The Rifles since 1953, and today, they are the largest infantry Regiment in the British Army. . The Duke of Edinburgh’s arrival was marked by four Buglers, who are members of The Rifles’ military band. The Duke was thanked for his 67 years of service and support to the Regiment, before the Buglers sounded the ‘No More Parades’ call, marking HRH’s final ceremony as The Rifles’ Colonel-in-Chief. . At Highgrove House, The Duchess of Cornwall was greeted by a Bugle call, and was welcomed by the Regiment’s Colonel Commandant as The Rifles’ new Colonel-in-Chief. .
