The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.       The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC today, Friday, May 31, 2019, arraigned Philomina Chieshe, the controversial official of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, who claimed that the N35, 480, 000 (Thirty Five Million Four Hundred and Eighty Naira) being JAMB proceeds in her custody was swallowed by a snake in Makurdi, Benue State JAMB office. She was arraigned before Justice Peter Affen of the FCT High Court, Maitama. Two other officials of JAMB also arraigned alongside Chieshe were Samuel Sale Umoru and Yakubu Jekada. The trio were arrested by the Commission in 2016, following an audit report indicting them over the alleged graft and were arraigned on charges bordering on fraud, misappropriation of funds and criminal breach of trust while holding sway as Jamb officials in Benue and Plateau States, respectively.      The Court of Appeal in Lagos on Friday okayed the request of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the final forfeiture of N1.4billion which a firm, Melrose General Services Limited, obtained from the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) through false claims. Melrose is allegedly linked to outgoing Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, whose two aides- Gbenga Makanjuola and Kolawole Shittu are being prosecuted by the EFCC in respect of the matter. Justice Cecilia Olatoregun of the Federal High Court in Lagos had on April 27, 2018 ordered the final forfeiture of the said N1.4billion to the Federal Government. Dissatisfied with the verdict of Justice Olatoregun, Melrose General Services approached the appellate court for redress, asking it to set aside the pronouncement of the lower court. But in its judgement on the matter on Friday, the Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal of Melrose (the appellant) and resolved the four contentious issues in favour of the EFCC

      The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday, May 31, 2019, challenged a medical report tendered by Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia before Justice Rilwan Aikawa of the Federal high court sitting in ikoyi, Lagos Ofili-Ajumogobia alongside Godwin Obla, SAN, were arraigned on May 15, 2019 on an 18-count charge bordering on breach of trust, false statement and unlawful enrichment. At today's sitting, counsel to Ofili-Ajumogobia, Robert Clarke, SAN, told the court that his client was absent in court today, having been admitted to a police hospital for treatment. Ofili-Ajumogobia's counsel, in furtherance of his claim, presented to the court a medical report and also sought an adjournment of the case.      The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Makurdi Zonal Office has secured the conviction of one Ikechukwu Sunday Onovo, an ATM fraudster. The Commission had arrested, investigated and taken Onovo before Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon sitting at Federal High Court Makurdi, Benue State. Following a plea bargain arrangement between him and the Commission, he was re-arraigned on a one-count amended charge that replaced the initial charge against him. The count reads: “That you, Ikechukwu Sunday Onovo, on or about the 19th day of April, 2019 at Makurdi, in the Makurdi judicial Division of the Federal High Court did steal an electronic card to wit: A Union Bank Debit Card issued in the name of Mukhtar Ali and withdrew the sum of N390,000.00 from the said account and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 33(3) of the Cybercrime (prohibition prevention Etc.)
