 NIGERIAN ARMY TROOPS APPREHEND HUMAN TRAFFICKER IN LAGOS, RESCUE VICTIM Troops of 65 Bn Nigerian Army (NA) operating under the 81 Division NA, have successfully apprehended a human trafficker in Lagos. Following actionable intelligence, Mrs Olushola Areke was arrested in connection with human trafficking. The suspect was accused of kidnapping Miss Fayoke Kunle, a 22-year-old daughter of Mrs Ainor Kunle. Mrs. Kunle claimed she had voluntarily entrusted her daughter to the suspect, who had promised to secure employment for the young girl in Oshodi, Lagos. However, instead of heading to Oshodi as promised, the suspect moved Miss Kunle to Kano, where the victim later discovered herself and overheard discussions about being transported to Libya. Miss Kunle courageously escaped from her captor and returned home on 23 April 2024.  Who advised you to plead guilty – Aisha Yesufu queries Bobrisky Aisha Yesufu, a popular social activist has blamed popular crossdresser, Bobrisky for pleading guilty to the count of naira mutilation. On Friday, Justice Abimbola Awogboro handed down a six-month sentence without the option of a fine. The controversial celebrity has been in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, since his arrest last week. EFCC had arrested and prosecuted Bobrisky for naira mutilation. A TEEN LOSES BOTH HER LEGS AFTER BEING STRUCK BY A TRAIN. (PHOTO).

 Granite City, Illinois teen loses both legs after being struck by a train. 13-year-old Serenity McMillan was crossing the tracks near the 2900 block of Missouri Avenue on April 5th when tragedy struck. In an instant, this happy and bubbly Coolidge Junior High cheerleader's life was inexorably changed. Serenity attempted to cross the tracks but was either unaware of the impending danger or miscalculated the train's speed. Sadly this young lady was struck by the train. When first responders arrived on scene, Serenity was deemed as having life threatening injuries.  She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she unfortunately and ultimately lost both of her legs.  In light of this horrible accident the town of Granite City pulled together in an amazing display of community and has raised nearly $10,000 for the family. This time beat the previous record held by Dana Glowacka by 10 minutes.  Donna says the fact that all 12 of her grandchildren were there cheering her on was all the motivation she needed during her record breaking ordeal.  Seven die in Italy plant blast Rescuers on Friday found the body of the last worker missing after a blast at a hydroelectric plant in Italy, bringing the final death toll to seven. Fire spokesman Luca Cari confirmed to AFP that all the workers missing after Tuesday’s explosion had now been found. Three bodies had been recovered on Thursday. The cause of the blast at Enel Green Power’s Bargi plant on Lake Suviana near Bologna remains unclear. EGP’s chief executive, Salvatore Bernabei, said in an interview published Friday that any speculation was “premature”, saying it would take time to understand a “very complex” situation.

Heavy rains pounding different parts of Kenya have led to the deaths of at least 13 people and displaced some 15,000 people, the United Nations said, as forecasters warn that more rains can be expected until June. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, citing the Kenya Red Cross Society, said Thursday that nearly 20,000 people were affected, including an estimated 15,000 people displaced by heavy rains and flash floods across the country since the start of the wet season in mid-March. The East African country has seen thousands of people killed by flooding in previous rainy seasons, mostly in the lake regions and downstream of major rivers.

 Ex-CBN Gov Emefiele gets N50m bail Justice Rahman Oshodi of an Ikeja Special Offences Court on Friday granted embattled former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele N50m bail.  Emefiele is facing a 26-count charge bordering on alleged abuse of office and fraud  to the tune of $4.5 billion and N2.8 billion. Justice Oshodi, in his ruling, admitted Emefiele to N50 million bail with two sureties in like sum. Oshodi ordered the sureties must be gainfully employed and must have made three years tax payment with the Lagos State Government. He also said that the sureties must show proper identification and that they must be registered in the Lagos State Bail Management System.  Boko Haram terrorists slaughter 27 fishermen in Cameroon No fewer than 27 fishermen were slaughtered  while three others  were abducted by the Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihād, (Boko Haram terrorist group) in the fringes of Lake Chad in the border between Cameroon and Nigeria. It was gathered that terrorists suspected to be from the Buduma faction of Abou Ummaymah, attacked a local fishing community harbouring most fishermen from Nigeria at Island Kofiya near Darak in the Republic of Cameroon. Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that they asked them to lie down, tie their hands behind their backs before they started slaughtering them. The sources said the terrorists also abducted four other fishermen after accusing them of spying for the ISWAP faction The bodies of the fishermen were later recovered during a search and rescue operation by troops and their colleagues who received the news from victims who fled the attack scene.

 Scores killed as ISWAP, Boko Haram fighters clash in Lake Chad Scores of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters have been killed in another clash with the Bakoura Buduma also known as Abou Umaymah’s Boko Haram elements. The clash occurred on the islands of Kukiri and Lelewa on the Lake Chad shores in Niger Republic. Impeccable sources told Zagazola Makama,  a counter insurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad region that that the clash began late afternoon on Thursday. It was gathered that Abu Umaima Ari Kau led fighters of the Buduma who dispatched from Lelewa and Gadira in Bosso, Diffa region in the Republic of Niger and launched a fresh assault in the camp, killing several ISWAP fighters. More clashes are expected in the coming weeks.

 Manu Garba appointed Golden Eaglets coach The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, on Friday announced the appointment of Manu Garba as head coach of the country’s U-17 side, Golden Eaglets. Garba is making a return to the position having guided the Golden Eaglets to win the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2013. The former Nigeria international will immediately resume the role and take charge of the team’s preparations for the WAFU B U-17 Championship, taking place in Ghana. The competition will take place next month. The WAFU tourney will serve as qualifier for the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.  Police confirm kidnap of channels reporter in Rivers The Rivers state police commissioner Olatunji Disu has confirmed the abduction of the Channels TV reporter in Rivers state Joshua Rogers. According to the Rivers CP in a conversation with our correspondent, Josh was abducted Thursday night at about 9pm in front of his gate at Rumuosi, in Obio/Akpor local government area of Rivers state. Olubadan in Council which is the Traditional Kingmakers of Ibadanland agreed to name Oba Olakulehin as the next Olubadan, being the Most Senior High Chief in the Balogun line of Olubadan Chieftaincy Ascension. He was nominated by the Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Gbadamosi Adebimpe. Recall that the late Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Dr. Moshood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II died on evening hour of Thursday, March 14 at the University College Hospital (UCH) after a brief illness. Born on the 18th of October 1942, Oba Olalekan is the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland. He became Olubadan on March 11, 2022.
