  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. ICPC Advocates for Sustainable Plans in Fight Against Corruption The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has advocated for consistent and sustainable plans in the fight against corruption saying that this would go a long way in achieving the desired results. This, amongst others was the position of the Commission during a panel discussion at a two-day National Conference on Anti-Corruption organised by the Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA Resource Centre) and the Centre for Fiscal Transparency and Integrity Watch (CEFTIW) in Abuja on Wednesday. The ICPC Chairman, Professor Bolaji Owasanoye, SAN, OFR, who was represented at the event by the Commission’s Head of External Cooperation Unit, Mr. Kingsley Obi noted that the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) has reaffirmed the fact that there are little or no new laws in the fight against corruption, but the challenge of effective implementation strategy.

Girl running from dog d!es of electrocution in Lagos A 13-year-old girl , Taiye Ojo, who was running from a barking dog, was el£ctrocuted in her residence in the Makoko area of Yaba, Lagos Stateon Saturday, July  8. According to eyewitnesses, Taiye was on her way to the toilet inside her compound when she saw the dog who started barking at her. Terrified that the dog might attack her, Taiye  began to run. As she was running, she accidentally touched the outdoor unit of an air conditioner and she was el£ctrocuted. Neighbors who saw her fall immediately rushed her to the hospital where she was confirmed d£ad on arrival. The victim has since been buried according to Islamic injunction.

Man sells his three children for N1.5m in Rivers The Rivers State Police Command has arrested one ThankGod Ekwueme for selling his three children. The suspect, whose wife is deaf and dumb, sold the 5-year-old for N700,000, 3-year-old for N350,000 and a day old baby for N500,000.   Spokesperson of the command, SP, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, July 13, 2023, said the suspect, was arrested after credible information on his illegal activity.  In an interview with journalists, Ekwueme, said he was intercepted by OSPAC in his community Omerelu, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state when he was about selling his newborn baby.   The suspect disclosed that he was handed over to Elele Police Division from where he was transferred to CP Monitoring unit. Russian general reported killed in Ukraine attack 13th Jul 2023  A senior Russian general has been killed in a missile strike in Ukraine, Russian sources have said. Lt Gen Oleg Tsokov is said to have died in a strike on a hotel housing Russian military commanders in Berdyansk, on Ukraine's occupied southern coast. Russia's defence ministry has not officially confirmed his death. But it was widely announced by Russian war channels on the Telegram messaging app. TV host Olga Skabeyeva said "absolutely all media" were reporting it. Lt Gen Tsokov was deputy commander of Russia's southern military district. Ms Skabeyeva who presents a talk show on the state-run Rossiya-1 channel said he was killed by a UK-supplied Storm Shadow missile. Andrei Gurulyov, an MP and retired general who appeared on her popular 60 Minutes show on Tuesday, said the general had returned to Ukraine despite being badly wounded earlier in the conflict.
