  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. LAGOS TO COMMENCE SHUTDOWN OF ILLEGAL EDUCATION CENTRES FROM NEXT MONDAY.

       The Lagos State Government, through the Agency for Mass Education, will commence shutdown of all unregistered Tutorial and Continuing Education Centres (CECs) in Lagos State effective from Monday, 11th September 2017. A statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr. Obafela Bank-Olemoh said the closure is necessitated by the refusal of some operators of Tutorial and Continuing Education Centre s to comply with the State’s directive to register their Centres and pay up their annual dues after several notices from the State. Bank-Olemoh said the government suspended an earlier clampdown on such Tutorial and Continuing Education Centres after a closed door meeting with critical stakeholders in the sector on Monday, September 26, 2016. According to him, the stakeholders agreed to cooperate with the State in its pursuit of standardizing the educational sector in line with international best practices, while pledging their commitment to improving the qualit

        The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has been drawn to an article by veteran columnist, Sonala Olumhense entitled, As EFCC Confesses the Sad Truth, which was syndicated in print and online media on Sunday, September 3, 2017. The piece dwelt extensively on two heads of strategic agencies in the Muhammadu Buhari administration- the chief of army staff, General Tukur Buratai and the acting chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu. The author as usual, wrote with poetic candour but missed the point on the score of the chairman of the EFCC by imputing to him statements that he never made. “The way we are going we have already failed… I am telling you we have almost failed. It is almost lost,” Olumhense quoted Magu as having said, when he met with journalists in Abuja on August 30. At no time did Magu make such statement during the meeting with senior journalists.           Life took a new turn for Nollywood actress, Eucharia Anunobi, as she buried the remains of her only child, Raymond, on Tuesday morning at the Ikoyi, Lagos cemetery. He was aged 15. Present at the funeral were actresses, Ini Edo, Stephanie Okereke-Linus, Monalisa Chinda, Rita Dominic, Lillian Bach, Susan Peters and a host of other celebrities. A brief service of Tribute took place before the interment. The funeral service, which started at 10 a.m., had in attendance numerous friends and family members of the actress, who is also a pastor of the Fresh Oil Ministry International Church, Lagos. The deceased, Raymond Ekwu, died from complications associated with sickle cell anaemia on August 23. Eucharia married Charles Ekwu in 2000 and the marriage lasted till 2006 before trouble set in. Fellow actor, Odira Nwobu, announced his passing on social media through a video of the lifeless body of Okwy Chukwujekwu. He said: “I do not know what to say and where to start.
