 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. EFCC Arrests Ex-Convict, 61 Other Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Ilorin Operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested no fewer than 62 persons over alleged involvement in offences bordering on internet fraud in Ilorin, Kwara State. The Incident, which happened at Umunankwo village in Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state, occurred barely one month after another woman was similarly dehumanized, molested, and ostracized in another community in the state. Sonia, daughter of former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu has shared her account of the circumstances leading to her parents' arrest and after they were arrested. In an interview with BBC, Sonia said it was shocking getting arrested alongside her parents. Commenting on the conviction of her parents for organ trafficking by a UK court, the former deputy senate president's daughter said she disagrees with the conviction even though she understands it. She also admitted that she will be biased in such situation because she will always be on her parents' side. She also said they will be moving on from the case.  On her kidney condition, she revealed that she has lymphatic syndrome, which means her kidney is small with large holes. N2.1bn Fraud: Appeal Court Upholds Maina’s Eight-Year Sentence  The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has upheld the eight-year jail term imposed on the former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina who was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for money laundering to the tune of N2.1billion. In a unanimous judgment today, Friday, May 5, 2023, a three-member panel of the court affirmed the November 8, 2021 judgment by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which convicted and sentenced him. Justice Elfreda Williams-Daudu who delivered the lead judgment resolved the two issues identified for determination against Maina and held that he was not denied fair hearing by the trial court and that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. Millions Lost As Fire Guts Alaba International Market May 5, 2023 Traders are currently counting their losses as goods worth millions of naira were Thursday, burnt as the electronics section of the Alaba International Market, Ojo, Lagos State, was gutted by fire. Information revealed that some of the traders are making personal efforts to put out the raging inferno. It is still unclear what led to the fire outbreak, but there are reports that the fire started following a gas cylinder explosion in one of the shops in the market. Fire Incident at EFCC’s Enugu Command A fire incident occurred today, May 5, at the Enugu Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, which affected one of the buildings of the Command. The incident which occurred at about 12.30 am Friday, was triggered by a surge in public power supply, but the ensuing inferno was later put out through the combined efforts of the Enugu State and Federal Fire Service. EFCC Arraigns POS Agent for N-Power Scam A Point of Sale Agent who also doubles as Closed Circuit Television Technician,   Abdulfathi Aminu Ahmad was on Thursday, May 4, 2023, arraigned before Justice R.M Aikawa of the Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna, Kaduna State on one count charge of money laundering by the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Ahmad is alleged to have created fraudulent profiles of 72 N-power beneficiaries with bank accounts through which he had been collecting monthly stipends to the tune of N N8, 900,000.00. The lid on the scam was blown when an N-power benefit enrollee from Zamfara State, raised the alarm that his profile had been hijacked by an unknown person and his stipends diverted.
