Nigerian Army announces recruitment results, urges applicants to check portal 3 May 2023  The Nigerian Army has urged applicants who applied for the 85 Regular Recruits Intake in 2023 to visit its portal to check the list of shortlisted candidates. The Army made the announcement in a statement on Wednesday, stating that the state recruitment screening exercise is scheduled to commence from May 8–21, 2023, in all 36 states and in Abuja. The Nigerian Army also published the list of documents that shortlisted candidates must report with during their respective states of origin for the screening exercise. Shortlisted applicants must come with their original copies of WASCE/GCE/NECO/NABTEB certificates in a file jacket, Printed Bank Verification Number (BVN) certificate authenticated by a bank. EFCC Arraigns Man for Land Fraud in Maiduguri The Maiduguri Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, May 3, 2022, arraigned one Mallam Ali Dala before Justice B.M Umar of the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri on a three count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence and forgery to the tune of N800,000 (Eight Hundred Thousand Naira only). The defendant fraudulently collected the said sum from Mohammed Zailani for the purchase of a plot of land located behind the Federal Road Safety Corps’ office, Maiduguri, Borno State. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him by EFCC. Counsel for the prosecution, A. A Ayenshola prayed the court to remand the defendant and fix a date for the trial to commence.   Court Jails Two Internet Fraudsters in Makurdi Justice Abdul Dogo of Federal High Court, Makurdi, Benue State, on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, convicted and sentenced two internet fraudsters to two years jail terms for fraud.   They are John Sule Godwin and Samuel Aondowase Kpemiyol   They were arraigned on separate one count charges bordering on personation, illegal possession of proceeds of crime and intent to defraud, by the Makurdi Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.   Upon arraignment the defendants pleaded guilty to their respective charges prompting the prosecution counsel, Uwaisu Yusuf and A. S. Alleged N950m Fraud: EFCC Presents First Witness Against Young Alhaji  Foundation Promoter In Lagos The Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, presented its first prosecution witness,  Adeniyi Oyewole, Managing Director, Ano Farms Limited, against one Alhaji Usman Abubakar, who is facing trial for an alleged N950m fraud before Justice Mojisola Dada  of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos.  Abubakar, alongside Young Alhaji Foundation, is being prosecuted on a five-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and stealing to the tune of N950 million fraud. He pleaded "not guilty" to the charges when he was first arraigned on February 22, 2023. EFCC Arraigns Man for N5m Forex Scam The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, today, May 3, 2023 arraigned one Philip Yohanna before Justice Daruis Khobo of the Kaduna State High Court, Kaduna, on a three count charge bordering on a criminal breach of trust. The defendant allegedly in 2021 received the sum of N5million in trances from one Zigwai Ayuba for investment in foreign exchange trading but diverted the fund to own use. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges. In view of his plea, the prosecution counsel, K.S Ogunnade asked for a date for trial to commence, while the defence counsel, B.A Damshaki filed an application for bail of the defendant. Justice Khobo granted bail to the defendant in the sum of Three Million Naira (N3, 000,000) and one surety in like sum. EFCC Arrests 17 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Enugu State Operatives of the Enugu Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 arrested 17 suspected internet fraudsters in a sting operation in Enugu. The suspects are: Egwin Aguh Chinonso, Chukwudi Christain Onuonicha, Odo Emmanuel Sunday, Obaje Christain Peter, Ogbe Samuel Chukwuebuka, Eze Kingsley Chisom, Ezema Aiugustine Izuchukwu and Edeh Nnamdi Benjamin, Others include Ogbe Joshua Chinonso, Chinagorom Victor Ani, Ebere Arinze Emmanuel, Chukwuemeka Donald Anih, Ogbe Christopher Arinze, Chinedu Joshua, Edeh Kelechukwu, and Emmanuel Aninweke Mmesoma Item recovered from them include mobile phones, laptops and a Mercedes Benz E350.  Nigerian evacuees from Sudan finally depart Egypt for Abuja, airlifted without luggage 3 May 2023  Nigerian evacuees who fled crisis-ridden Sudan have been airlifted from Aswan airport in Egypt. Nigerian Air Force plane, NAF C130, and an aircraft belonging to Air Peace, with capacity of 274 passengers, were earlier scheduled to depart by 1pm Nigerian time, but did not. The Egyptian authorities had insisted that all the evacuees must leave their soil at once. Sources disclosed that the evacuees were allowed into the Egyptian airport between last night and early hours of Wednesday. “About 25 extra passengers were even added to the NAF C130 against its normal capacity of 80, in order to meet the condition, but there were still others that could not get space, hence the journey was initially postponed. “NAF’s pilot had agreed to accept them on the condition that they leave without their luggage.  Ajay Banga Emerges New World Bank President May 3, 2023      The World Bank has announced the appointment of Ajay Banga as its next president, taking over from David Malpass on June 2. The development lender has high hopes for Banga, who will lead the institution during a critical time as it seeks to improve its response to climate change. Following a board vote, the World Bank released a statement expressing confidence in Banga’s leadership, adding that it looks forward to working with him on the organisation’s evolution process. “The Board looks forward to working with Mr. Banga on the World Bank Group Evolution process,” the bank wrote. Yahoo Boy Convicted for Impersonation Justice A. A. Bello of the Kaduna State High Court on Tuesday, May 3, 2023, convicted and sentenced one Jesse Akut  to a fine of N150,000 for offences bordering on cheating by impersonation.  He was convicted after pleading to one count of impersonation.  In view of his plea, Justice Bello convicted and sentenced the defendant to pay a fine of 150,000.00 (One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira). Jesse was also ordered  to pay the sum of N250,000.00 (Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) in restitution to the victim through the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Kaduna Zonal Command, on or before the expiration of one month from the date of signing the plea bargain agreement. Woman Disguises As Nurse, Stabs Husband Pregnant Secret Wife To Death A Chadian woman, Fatima Rahman, has been remanded at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre for allegedly stabbing her pregnant co-wife, Adizat, to death at her residence in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State. The 42-year-old Fatima was arraigned on Tuesday before Magistrate P. E Nwaka at a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Yaba on one count of murder. She was said to have been angry when she learnt that her husband had married another wife and reportedly visited the pregnant woman in her residence under the guise of being a nurse and stabbed her to death. A neighbour of the deceased who saw her when she arrived at the residence was said to have indicted her after deep wounds were found on the deceased’s neck and head. Police Raids Diobu Waterfronts, Arrest 55 Suspected Cultist The Rivers State Police command in the wee hours of Monday and Tuesday raided some waterfront residences in Mile 1 and Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt suspected to be harbouring cultists and arrested about fifty-five suspects, we learnt.
