  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. Kim Jong Un Meets Vladimir Putin In Russia  North Korea's Kim Jong Un has met Vladimir Putin in Russia in a highly scrutinised visit which was expected to yield an arms deal. After talks ended at the Vostochny space centre, Mr Kim began his long journey home on his private armoured train, Russian state media reported. Speaking later on Wednesday, Mr Putin said the pair discussed "possibilities" for military cooperation. Moscow has indicated it will help Pyongyang develop satellites in return. Both sides denied the US' claim that the talks are aimed at buying weapons to support Russia's war against Ukraine. Besides advanced space technology, Mr Kim is also thought to have asked for food aid in return. The family posted a statement on his official Instagram page on Tuesday night. Without disclosing the cause of his death, MohBad’s family begged for privacy at this difficult time.  “It is with great sadness that we confirm the passing of Promise Oladimeji Aloba PK/A MohBad (Imole) today, the 12th of September, 2023. “MohBad was Light until the very end, and as we mourn the loss of the brightness he carried, the family thanks you for your love and prayers, and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time. “Imole is finally at Peace,” the family wrote.  NIS issues 55,000 passports in five days Five days after getting a marching order from Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo,  the Nigeria  Immigration Service (NIS)  has cleared 55,000 out of the  200,000 international passports awaiting issuance to applicants. Tunji-Ojo revealed this during a meeting with Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Minister Betta Edu in Abuja yesterday. He reassured that once the remaining 145,000 passport backlogs were cleared, it would take new applicants only two weeks to receive the travel document. The Nation gathered from a source that the biggest challenge to passport issuance is the difficulty NIS  faces in linking applicants’ National Identity Numbers(NINs) to their booklets.  The NIS  source, who did not want his name in print, said that  National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) servers have been down in the past month.  NIMC is the Federal Government agency responsible for the allocation of NIN to Nigerians. Reps Halt Demarcation To Cede Sina The House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee on International Boundary Dispute has directed that the demarcation exercise to cede Sina Area in Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa State to the Republic of Cameroon be halted immediately. The Chairman of the Committee, Mrs Beni Lar, gave the ruling during a hearing on the series of lingering boundary hotspots across the Nigeria-Cameroon boundaries, which stretch from the Lake Chad region down to the Cross River estuaries. RIFAN To Cultivate 400 Hectres For  Improved Rice Seeds Kebbi State Chapter of the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria RIFAN, is to cultivate 400 hectres of land for improved rice seeds to boost production in the state.  The State Chairman of the association, Alhaji Bello Barade who stated this when he led members on a courtesy visit to governor Nasir Idris said the 400 land  hectres in Bagudo LGA was meant for the project and would cost N70 million for distribution to farmers.  According to him, Kebbi State is famous in rice and wheat production in Nigeria but farmers are now using rice -for - food as seeds which motivated the association to start the cultivation of the improved seeds.
