 Expect heavy rains, flood soon — NEMA, NIMET, NIHSA tells Nigerians 23rd Jun 2023  The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET), and the Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) have predicted a high probability of flooding across the country as a result of heavy rainfall in the months ahead. The agencies, which released their 2023 Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP) and Annual Flood Outlook (AFO) early in the year, said they were taking proactive steps to downscale and possibly avert impending flood disasters. NEMA’s Director General Mustapha Ahmed announced that a team of experts from NIMET, NIHSA and NEMA had been deployed in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to handle any eventuality.  Man, pregnant wife found dead in Abuja 23rd Jun 2023  A man, Hussaini Lawal, and his pregnant wife, were penultimate Saturday found dead on their bed inside their apartment at Wuse Zone 4 in Abuja.  An elder brother of the late Lawal, Auwal, told our reporter that his brother, who was a Bureau de Change (BDC) operative, was last seen on Thursday evening in his office located a walk’s distance from his house where he lived with other tenants. He further said, “They lived on the second floor of a three-storey apartment at Agric Quarters. His vehicle was in the compound. Their apartment was locked from within. So, after several calls to their mobile phones were not answered, I suggested, while on my way coming from Kano, that the door be forced open on Saturday.” Our reporter further learnt that the matter was reported at the Wuse Zone 3 Police Division and that following a preliminary investigation, their remains were taken to the Wuse General Hospital and later buried on the same day.

Babagana Zulum has expressed shock and sadness over the killing of eight farmers in Mafa Local Government Area of Borno by the Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP). The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the killing occurred in Shuwarin, Tomsu Ngamdu, Baram Karauwa and Muna on Thursday at about 1 pm while the farmers were working on their farms. Gunmen kill 3 miners, injure 2 in Plateau 23rd Jun 2023  Gunmen on Friday killed three persons at a mining site around Tanjol in Jol community of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau. Mr Rwang Tengwong, the National Publicity Secretary of Berom Youth Movement (BYM), a socio-cultural group, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Jos. According to Tengwong, the incident occurred at about 11 a.m. He added that two other persons were injured. “At about 11 a.m., gunmen killed three persons and injured two others at a mining site in Tanjol area of Jol community of Riyom. “The injured persons are currently receiving treatment at a hospital within the locality,” he said. Police Inspector jailed 22 years for impregnating own daughter 23rd Jun 2023 A Minna Senior magistrate court in Niger state has sentenced a Police Inspector Gbenga Fajuyi to 22years in the Correctional Centre for Impregnating his 13-year-old daughter. Fajuyi was said to have been having carnal knowledge of his biological daughter from when she was 12 years of age until she became pregnant at 13 years. He was arraigned before Senior Magistrate Christy Barau on a three count charge of unlawful sexual intercourse, incest, impregnating a female student, and criminal intimidation contrary to section 18 (2) of the Niger State Child Right Law 2010, Section 390 25 (3), and 397 B of the penal code.  Fajuyi pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him but the court ignored his plea and asked for full trial of the convict. Court Sends Plumber, Four Others to Prison for Internet Fraud in Benin City A 23-year-old plumber, Precious Donald and four others were on Friday, June 23, 2023, convicted and sentenced to various jail terms by Justice M. Itsueli of Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City for internet fraud. Others are Amos Onakpofure, Chukwunekwu Nwadei, Gabriel Okpotor and Chibueze Nmezi. The convicts’ journey to prison began following their arrest by operatives of Benin Zonal Command based on intelligence on their nefarious activities. They were subsequently arraigned on separate one count charges  bordering on possession of proceeds of crime, false representation and unlawful possession of fraudulent documents, an offence contrary to Sections 17(a) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( Establishment) Act ,2004 and punishable under Section 17(b) of the same Act.   The charge against Nmezi reads: “that you, Chibueze Nmezi sometime between 17th January, 2011 and 26th May, 2023 in Benin

Two Jailed for Internet Fraud in Abuja, Forfeit Car, Phone to FG The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abuja Zonal Command, today, June 23, 2023, secured the conviction of one Eze Richard. He was arraigned before Justice I. Mohammed of the FCT High Court, Gwagwalada-Abuja on one count charge. Richard  is alleged to have, sometime in 2023 in Abuja, assumed the identity of an American and under the assumed character, dishonestly induced Ajay Prajapati to deliver the sum of Three Thousand Five Hundred United States Dollars ($3500) to him under the guise of  betting on his behalf. The offence is contrary to Section 320 of the Penal Code law (Laws of the Federation, Abuja) 1990 and punishable under Section 322 of the same Law. He pleaded guilty to the charge. Following his plea, Justice Mohammed convicted and sentenced Eze to a one-year jail term with an option of fine of N30,000 (Thirty Thousand Naira). Nigerian man kidnapped and murdered in Enugu 3 days after receiving visa to the UK for Masters degree program A 30-year-old Nigerian man, Augustine Somuadina Ali, was kidnapped and killed by unknown assailants three days after he received a visa to the UK for his Masters degree program.    Somuadina, popularly known as Italian Millano, was kidnapped on Friday, June 2, 2023, while on the way to his village, Umuochi Ugwu in Orji Amokwe, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.    His body was found dumped along a road hours later.
