The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. Benue: Armed invaders killed 134 in 5 days — Ortom 10 April 2023  Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, has said at least 134 people have been killed by armed invaders within five days in separate attacks on villages in Otukpo, Apa and Guma local government areas of the state. Our correspondent reports that the death toll of Wednesday’s attack on Umogidi village in Otukpo LGA rose to 52 from the initial 46 recorded on the spot. Three people had been killed in the same village a day before the massacre. Also, the death toll from the Friday night attack on Ngban IDP camp in Guma LGA rose from 36 to 38 as of Sunday while other parts of the local government recorded unspecified numbers of deaths caused by the armed men within the five days. Similarly, in Apa LGA, 47 people were reportedly killed on April 3 in different villages, including the Ikobi community, where a traditional ruler was killed along with some of his subjects. Dalai Lama apologises after video of him asking boy to suck his tongue sparked outrage.  The Dalai Lama has apologized after a video emerged showing him kissing a child on the lips and then telling the child “suck my tongue” at an event in northern India.  In a statement Monday, April 10, the office for the Dalai Lama said he “wishes to apologize to the boy and his family, as well as his many friends across the world, for the hurt his words may have caused,” adding he “regrets” the incident.  “His Holiness often teases people he meets in an innocent and playful way, even in public and before cameras,” the statement said.  The spiritual leader’s apology comes after a video of the exchange, which took place during an event in the hillside city of Dharamshala in February, went viral on social media with many users criticizing the Dalai Lama’s actions.  In the video, the young boy can be seen approaching the Nobel Peace Prize winner before asking, “Can I hug you?”  The Dalai Lama then invi

Three men abduct Lagos policeman, destroy N185,000 phone 10 April 2023  Three men, Olayinka Idowu, 39; Caleb Saviour, 45; and Andrew Ogoh, 36, were on Thursday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court sitting at Ogba area of Lagos State on charges of abduction and assault. The defendants allegedly abducted a policeman, Inspector Shola Akindeko, to an unknown destination and assaulted him. One of the suspects, Idowu, was said to have destroyed the policeman’s telephone handset, iPhone XR, valued at N185,000. Idowu, Saviour and Ogoh were also accused of committing assault in a three-count bordering on committing a felony to wit assault occasioning harm and cause of breach of public peace. The police prosecutor, Inspector Josephine Ikhayyera, said the offence committed is punishable under Sections 411, 168(D) and 350 of the Criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.  Mob Stones Driver To Death For Killing Two In Akure A mob, on Monday, stoned a 35-year-old man to death for allegedly killing two persons and injuring six others in an accident at Ijoka road, Akure, Ondo State capital. The Spokesperson for the police command in Ondo State, SP Olufunmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed the incident to newsmen. Ms Odunlani-Omisanya said the accident involved a vehicle and a commercial motorcycle. Abductors of Ogboni head’s wives demand N2m ransom, energy drink, cigarettes  10 April 2023  The abductors of two wives of the of Ogboni Aborigines, Oba Adetoyese Olakisan, demanded N2m ransom as well as energy drinks and cigarettes to release the remaining victim in their den.  But the victim was rescued in the early hours of Sunday by local security operatives after a gun battle that lasted for several minutes.    The family member of the victim, who is the head of a cultural security group, Kiriji Heritage Defenders, Dr Ademola Ekundayo, confirmed that the victim has been rescued.  The abductors kidnapped two wives of the Ogboni head at their residence in Oke-Imesi in Obokun Local Government Area before one of them escaped last week. The cause of the explosion is not yet known. It destroyed the building shortly after midnight on Sunday, and a neighbouring block of flats partly collapsed a few hours later. Benoit Payan, the city's mayor, said it was likely that people had died. Almost 200 people were evacuated from nearby buildings. Gye-Wado was on Thursday, April 6, 2023, kidnapped from his country home in Rinza, near Wamba, headquarters of Wamba local government area of the state. His kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N70 million, but the family negotiated from N2 million and later N3.5 million, eventually paying N4 million before he was released.

Nigerian woman, three others nabbed for operating Libya’s prostitution ring Four migrants, including a Nigerian woman, have been arrested by Libyan security agents for allegedly running a prostitution ring in the Hawari area of Benghazi, Libya. This was revealed via Migrant Rescue Watch’s Twitter handle on Sunday. According to the tweet, the 20-year-old woman was being sold by her pimp for $10 per customer. The tweet read, “CID in Benghazi dismantled a prostitution ring and arrested in Hawari area 4 undocumented #migrants incl. woman of Nigerian nationality.
