  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.                 The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Education has urged contractors handling building projects at the model colleges in Awori College, Lagos City Model College and Angus Memorial College to speed up work in the schools. Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Hon. Olanrewaju Ogunyemi, who led other members of the committee to the project sites on Monday, stressed that the projects were import ant and ambitious. Ogunyemi added that they were giant strides of the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode. "The model colleges visited would have 26 classrooms each, they would have laboratories and other facilities. These are world class facilities that befit a model college. "The essence of the visit is to assess the projects based on the desire of the government. "We have visited the three model colleges that ought to be pilots for other model colleges in the state. LASG ADVISES RESIDENTS OF OGUN RIVER BOUNDARY TODAY,TO RELOCATE.

             Lagos State Government has advised residents living along the plains of Ogun River to relocate as a necessary precaution due to the commencement of seasonal water releases from the Oyan dam by the management of Ogun-Oshun River Basin Development Authority. Dr. Samuel Babatunde Adejare, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment explained that controlled water releases from the dam was a pragmatic approach by the  dam management to prevent overflow and possible integrity failure of the Oyan Dam which could endanger the lives and property of residents, especially those living along the plains of the Ogun River in Lagos. The Commissioner, who disclosed this in a recent interview, stressed that the controlled release of water from the Oyan Dam was the outcome of the collaboration between the Lagos State Government and the Ogun-Oshun River Basin Authority to forestall a possible collapse of the dam. “The controlled water releases have become expedient as a result

In a statement by his Special Adviser (Media and Publicity), Yusuph Olaniyonu, the Senate President will spend the period of the pilgrimage to pray for the unity, stability and development of Nigeria as well as better health for the leader of the coun try, President Muhammadu Buhari. He will also spend the period of the holy pilgrimage to pray for more success for the Eighth National Assembly in the execution of its Legislative Agenda which is aimed at helping to improve the standard of living of the citizenry and positively transform the national economy. COURT ORDERS FINAL FORFEITURE OF DIEZANI'S N7.6BILLION TO FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

               A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered permanent forfeiture of N 7, 644, 700, 000.00 belonging to former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, to the Federal Government. The money which is reasonable suspected to be proceeds of illegal activities was traced by the EFCC to an account in a new generation bank. It is said to among monies allegedly stashed in several local banks by the former minister.

              The Buhari administration has reached out to the US government to step up its assistance in ensuring that corrupt officials don’t get a safe haven abroad for their loot, according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN. The Vice President, who made the call today during the visit of a US Congressional Delegation to the Presidential Villa, said both countries were working on a prompt repatriation of the funds. According to Prof. Osinbajo, ``we have reached out to the US government with respect with helping with repatriation of proceeds of crime and proceeds of corruption.’’ Prof. Osinbajo, who was appreciative of the support given by the US so far said the Buhari administration regarded ``corruption is an existential threat’’ that must be dealt with at its root. ``We have worked quite closely with the US government on repatriation of funds, we have seen some results’’, adding that the Federal Government is hoping for more improvement in the process. ``We t
