Court admits statistician’s report in PDP’s petition against Tinubu The Presidential Election Petition Court on Wednesday adjourned the petition of the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to Thursday, June 15. CBN announces unification of all foreign exchange rate windows The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced the unification of all segments of the forex market collapsing all windows into one. What this means now, is that the exchange rate in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange (FX) Market will now be determined by market forces. Previously, there were different windows and a fixed exchange rate system in place. However, with the recent changes, the exchange rate will be determined through the Investors and Exporters (I&E) window, where transactions will be conducted The apex bank made the move as part of a series of immediate changes to operations in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange (FX) Market, a move that will improve liquidity and stability. Tinubu Suspends EFCC Chairman Bawa Indefinitely  President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the indefinite suspension from office of the Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. AbdulRasheed Bawa, CON, to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office.  According to a statement by the office of the secretary to the government of the federation (OSGF), the decision followed weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against him. Bawa has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Director of Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation.

INEC cautions Labour Party against blackmail  The Independent National Electoral Commission on Wednesday reacted to the statement by the legal team of the Labour Party and its candidate, Peter Obi suggesting that the commission has refused to respond to the subpoenas served on them. Court Jails Two Fraudsters who Impersonated Americans in Kaduna The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction of the duo of Redeem James and Chisom Okoye before Justice A. A Isiaka of the Kaduna State High Court, Kaduna on separate one count charge bordering on internet fraud.  The Command, acting on intelligence reports, had arrested the duo at Abuja for alleged internet fraud –related activities. Further investigation into the cases revealed that the defendants were using various social media apps to defraud unsuspecting victims of their hard-earned money. They pleaded guilty to the separate charges, prompting the prosecuting counsel, K.S Ogunlade to ask the court to convict them accordingly. EFCC Arrests Five Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Lagos Operatives of the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, arrested five suspected internet fraudsters in Lagos. The suspects are: Tamaraemi Akpoviri, Jonathan Oshioke Okhumode, Jordan O. Clifford, Okorie J. Christian and Enabule Peace Osaro.  They were arrested during a sting operation at the Buena Vista Estate, Orchid Road, Lekki area of Lagos State, following an intelligence report on the activities of some individuals suspected to be internet fraudsters in the area.  Items recovered from the suspects, at the point of arrest, include exotic cars, mobile devices and laptop computers.  The suspects have volunteered their statements and will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.

FG TO BEGIN GIVING STUDENTS LOANS IN SEPTEMBER, OCTOBER 2023 The Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government today has said is working out modalities to begin students’ loans between September and October 2023. The Federal Ministry of Education, Permanent Secretary, David Adejo, revealed this in Abuja to journalists on the bill signed by President Bola Tinubu. The bill for student loans was signed into law by President Tinubu on Monday in fulfillment of a promise he made during his campaign.  It was sponsored by the Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and it provides for interest-free loans to indigent Nigerian students. Adejo said the law would provide easy access to higher education for indigent Nigerians through interest-free loans from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund. According to a report, the loan covers the loan students in private and public schools. He said that President Tinubu had also approved a committee made up of ministries and agencies to see to the f
