 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud.       Lagos State Government, on Tuesday, took more restrictive measures to break the cycle of transmission of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the State. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu directed all markets and stores trading in non-essential commodities to close for seven days. The directive takes effect from Thursday, March 26. Also, the Governor reduced the number of people that must participate in a public gathering at any given time from 50 to 25. Sanwo-Olu disclosed that he had instructed the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Kazeem Alogba, to close all High and Magistrate courts across the State from Thursday to support the efforts being made to stop the epidemic. Other public places shut by the Government include parks, playgrounds and recreational centres within the State, regardless of ownership.      24th March 2020 By Fred Itua, Abuja As part of moves to contain the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Abuja, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Muhammad Musa Bello, has imposed a partial lockdown on the territory. Addressing newsmen in Abuja, the minister, restated the earlier closure of schools and religious houses. He warned of dire consequences should the directive be flouted. He further announced a ban on all social gatherings, including Parks, Gardens, Event Centres, Night Clubs, Bars, football viewing centres and others. The minister also directed that civil servants of the FCT Administration on GL12 downwards stay away from work indefinitely. He said only those on essential duties like fire, medical, environmental and security services are exempted from the policy.     24th March 2020 Three members of staff to the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, have tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). A presidential source confirmed the development. Meanwhile, all the aides at the Vice President’s wing, with the exception of his media aide, did not turn up for work. A source said the VP reported late to work Monday afternoon, unlike his usual practice. Most of his aides had face masks and hand gloves on when they came to work on Monday. Meanwhile, the Presidential Villa is on a gradual lockdown as nonessential staff have been asked to stay home.

According to the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, the patient is a 62-year old male resident of Sagamu with recent travel history, who returned to the Country on March 17, 2020. Currently, the patient has been transferred to the Isolation Centre at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu for isolation and further observation. The priority now is to provide adequate care for the patient, while we continue to sensitise the general public on preventive hygiene measures.

      Nigerians have been advised to be wary of fraudsters who now pose as Directors of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) to dupe unsuspecting members of the public. This was contained in a public notice on the activities of fraudsters signed by the Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris FC NA, in Abuja. He revealed that the fraudsters usually identify themselves as Dr. Charles Wabande using the mobile number telephone number 09043177807 and Hajia Binta Bello using the mobile number 08038898704. Idris explained that in their operations, the fraudsters make telephone calls to unsuspecting public service staff and retirees, claiming that they are Directors of IPPIS and that they can facilitate the payment of the staff or retiree’s outstanding arrears.        The Federal Government has alerted Nigerians to the existence of an Android-based malicious and fraudulent Coronavirus Ransomware Application, which claims to provide updates on the virus and infections near the user. In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the Ransomware blocks access to users' personal data and accounts and threatens deletion, unless users pay One Hundred US Dollars ($100) in Bitcoin within 48 hours. He said the Ransomware App, detected on the website  www.coronavirusapp.site , prompts users to download an Android App purportedly for coronavirus map tracking and heat map visuals. Alhaji Mohammed said the development confirms warnings against cyber criminals seeking to exploit the growing spread of the virus for nefarious gains. He therefore called on the general public not to download the Ransomware App and to seek updates on the pandemic only from the appropriate authorities

     Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has tested positive for coronavirus, according to information emanating from his aide. Mukhtar Gidado,  Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, disclosed this in a media statement on Tuesday. The governor had earlier admitted he met and shook hands with Mohammed, the son of former Vice-President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday.More details later.

N22.5M FRAUD: TWO BAG SEVEN YEARS JAIL TERM EACH.{PHOTOS}.

      The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos zonal office, on Monday, March 23, 2020 secured the conviction and sentencing of David Obi and Sunday Onuigwe to seven years imprisonment each before Justice Olabisi Akinlade of State High Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos for N22.5Million fraud. The convicts were found guilty of the five-count charge preferred against them by the EFCC. The convicts were arraigned sometimes in 2012 by the anti-graft agency on five counts which bordered on conspiracy to obtain money by false pretence and obtaining money by false pretence. They however pleaded not guilty to the charges.       The Uyo Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has secured the conviction of one James Maduakolam Amadi over N2,665,000 (Two Million, Six Hundred and Sixty-five Thousand Naira) fraud. . . He was convicted by Justice Daniel Osiagor of the Federal High Court sitting in Umuahia, Abia State and sentenced to three years in prison. . . Amadi's journey to jail began on July 9, 2018 when the zone received a petition dated July 3, 2018 by one Soyabuchi Unaegbu. . . According to the petitioner, the convict claimed he did an online business, which he required money for in order to pay some of his associates. Unfortunately, he fell for the ploy and transferred millions of naira into Amadi's account and the accounts of his partners including one Duruiheme Augustus Ndubuisi. . . COVID-19: LAGOS ADOPTS BIO-SECURITY MEASURES AT ABATTOIR,SLAUGHTER HOUSES.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE.

      Lagos State Government has adopted a number of biosecurity measures at every facility within the Oko-Oba abattoir and lairage complex as well as other slaughterhouses in the State to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 and other infectious diseases through these facilities. The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Prince Gbolahan Lawal explained that the Government has stopped all non-essential activitie s of food vendors and other non-related abattoir practices. Lawal added that the ban on all religious gatherings or other activities that involve more than 50 people would be strictly enforced at the abattoir and slaughterhouses in Lagos, adding that operators are also expected to provide hand sanitisers and a distance thermometer at the entrance of these facilities.
