The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. Anambra Government Removes Structures Sitting Under High Tension Cables, Others Erected On Unauthorized Positions The Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA, has pulled down structures erected under high tension cables and other unauthorized positions at Club Road, formally known as Abakiliki Street, Awka. ACTDA enforcement team also removed shanties situated on the restricted strip of land demarcating both sides of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway at Agu-Awka and Amansea axises. ACTDA, is a state-owned local regulatory authority, that monitors housing and aesthetic development and outlooks of Awka town and other communities that make up the state capital territory.  As ACTDA's pre-removal order requires, owners of the demolished structures had been issued removal notices weeks before the present action. Over 40 people were reported to have died in the accident which happened Friday, October 7, at Umunankwo in Ogbaru local government area of Anambra State. Kwara Poly Student Jailed 6months for $9,891 Fraud The Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC on Friday, October 14, 2022 secured the conviction of 31-year-old Bashiru Azeez Seyi, a native of Oyan in Odo-Otin Local Government Area, Osun State, for offences bordering on internet fraud.  Bashiru, a student in the Marketing Department of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin was prosecuted on one count by the EFCC before Justice Adebayo Yusuf of the Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin.

Alleged N36bn Fraud: Turaki Not Acquitted- EFCC The October 13, 2022 ruling of the Federal High Court Dutse, striking out the money laundering charges brought against Saminu Turaki, a former governor of Jigawa State by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC does not amount to an acquittal. This clarification became imperative in view of widespread media reports purporting that the former governor had been discharged and acquitted of the charges preferred against him by the Commission. Justice Hassan Dikko in striking out the case on Thursday, premised his decision on the absence of the EFCC prosecutor in court and stated that the Commission is at liberty to proceed with the case when it is ready. Without prejudice to the decision by his Lordship, his position was not premised on the weight of the evidence by the prosecution or the lack of it.   WOMAN STABS HER BOYFRIEND TO DEATH IN NASARAWA  The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested one Alice Mulak of Ungwan Gwari, Karu Local Government Area of the state for stabbing her boyfriend to death with a knife following a misunderstanding. Spokesperson of the command, DSP Ramhan Nansel, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday, October 14, 2022, said the suspect was arrested by police operatives attached to Mararaba 'A' Division led by CSP Musa Babayola. According to the PPRO, preliminary investigation revealed that the incident happened behind City Rock Hotel, Mararaba at about 0330hrs when the deceased and his girlfriend engaged themselves in fisticuffs as a result of a misunderstanding. "Hence, the suspect was arrested and the knife used in perpetrating the offence was consequently recovered based on the directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adesina Soyemi," the statement read. IPOB's Nnamdi Kanu Not Acquitted, He Had Other Cases To Answer - Malami The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami (SAN) has said the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu was not acquitted by the Court of Appeal. He said the appellate court only decided a single issue that borders on rendition. He said Kanu has other pre-rendition cases to answer. Orji Kalu Criticises 2023 Budget, Says ‘Nigeria Is At War’ The Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Orji Kalu, has called on the Nigerian government to cut the cost of governance to save the country from a worsening economic crisis.
