A 2-year-old gorilla lost her life after a zoo employee accidentally shut her in a hydraulic door.

A western lowland gorilla named Eyare recently lost her life due to human error. Eyare was one of the many primates housed at the Calgary zoo, in Alberta, Canada.

Zoo officials say a team member mistakenly activated the wrong door while separating Eyare from the gorilla troop. Due to this mistake, Eyare suffered traumatic head injuries and sadly passed away as a result.

The employee was removed from their position working with the gorillas and is being retrained.

The zoo released a statement saying "Our tiny troop member will be remembered for her playful spirit and curious nature, and she will be deeply missed by all across the zoo and our community."
