 Navy flags off exercise Crocodile Lift Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, has flagged off the third edition of the French-facilitated maritime exercise codenamed Crocodile Lift, aimed at developing skills for amphibious operations. Ogalla was represented by the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Naval Doctrine Command, Rear Admiral Shehu Gombe. The event which took place on Saturday onboard Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) KADA at Western Naval Command, Lagos. The naval chief said the exercise was similar to the just-concluded ‘EX GRAND AFRICAN NEMO’, adding that it also presented an opportunity for partners with a shared understanding of security objectives to deploy African-led solutions to transborder threats and challenges. He reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s commitment and readiness to enhance regional collaboration toward ensuring the safety and security of the common maritime space for prosperous economic activities.  Okpebholo sets up panel to probe Obaseki’s Govt Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the formation of a 14-member State Assets Verification Committee to investigate the administration of his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki. The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.  Okpebholo restores statutory rights to Oba of Benin The Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has restored the full statutory rights of the Benin Monarch, Oba Ewuare II, abolishing the new traditional councils in Edo South created by the last administration. He also backed the Federal Government’s Gazette, which gave the ownership of the returned artefact to the Oba’s palace, which was looted during the 1897 Benin massacre by the British colonial forces. Also, the state government is withdrawing the letter revoking the concession of the Oba Akenzua II Cultural Centre issued by the last administration to be used as a motor park.  SERAP to Tinubu: Probe ‘missing’ N57bn in Humanitarian Affairs  The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged President Bola Tinubu to direct the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Mr Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, and appropriate anti-corruption agencies to probe the allegedly over N57 billion of public funds “missing, diverted or stolen” in the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in 2021. “Hundreds of billions of naira are also reportedly missing in other ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs),” SERAP said. These damning revelations are documented in the 2021 audited report released last week by the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation.   The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has declared that citizens would resist any attempts to impose Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, as the next governor of the state. This statement follows recent endorsements of Seyi as a potential successor to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in 2027 by some groups.  The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it will resume nationwide continuous voter registration, CVR, February 2025. It said the exercise would commence at the LGA level and later extend to registration areas.  The Federal Government has announced the promotion of 331 directors within the federal civil service. These newly appointed directors were part of a pool of 697 candidates who participated in the oral interviews held on November 4, 2024. Earlier, in May 2024, the Federal Civil Service Commission had issued a notification regarding the promotion and evaluation process for senior civil servants at Grade Levels 14, 15, and 16. The written assessments for the promotion process took place from August 12 to August 17, 2024. Following the written exams, the Civil Service Commission called in those who passed for oral interviews on October 11, 2024, and subsequently released an additional list of candidates on October 21, 2024. According to him, the new policy requiring all state-owned tertiary institutions in Enugu State to deliver Experiential Learning to students will require change in planning, budget, curriculum reform, assessment and promotions, as well as research. AUSTRALIA: A TOURIST LEG GOT STUCK WHILE KAYAKING THAT LED TO HIS LEG AMPUTATED. (PHOTO).

 A tourist visiting Australia got his leg stuck between boulders while kayaking, resulting in a 20-hour ordeal that ended with an on scene emergency amputation this morning. According to authorities in Tasmania, a tourist in his 60's was kayaking with some friends. As the group traversed a series of rapids the man was ejected from his kayak. Somehow, the man's leg became wedged in between two boulders, leaving him stuck and partially submerged in the icy waters for 20 hours. The call for assistance came in at approximately 3:30 p.m. on November 22nd. Rescue workers and EMS made several attempts to free the man throughout the evening and overnight, but ultimately were unsuccessful.  On the morning of November 23rd the man's condition was significantly deteriorating and after consulting with the man, the decision was made to amputate his leg. A 2-YEAR-OLD GORILLA LOST HER LIFE AFTER A ZOO EMPLOYEE ACCIDENTALLY SHUT HER IN A HYDRAULIC DOOR. (PHOTO).

 A 2-year-old gorilla lost her life after a zoo employee accidentally shut her in a hydraulic door.  A western lowland gorilla named Eyare recently lost her life due to human error. Eyare was one of the many primates housed at the Calgary zoo, in Alberta, Canada.  Zoo officials say a team member mistakenly activated the wrong door while separating Eyare from the gorilla troop. Due to this mistake, Eyare suffered traumatic head injuries and sadly passed away as a result. The employee was removed from their position working with the gorillas and is being retrained.  The zoo released a statement saying "Our tiny troop member will be remembered for her playful spirit and curious nature, and she will be deeply missed by all across the zoo and our community."

 Update in the brazen daylight abduction on Wednesday- Officials have arrested 43 year old Anjuan Mosby.  He has been charged in the tragic and senseless death of Michelle Hampton. Mosby forced Michelle to try to take $10,000 out of her bank account on Page boulevard. The bank only gave her $2,000. Mosby forced Michelle to go to two other banks and withdraw $1,000 out of each bank.  Mosby had shot at Michelle's sister as she was trying to follow behind him. She had her children in the car with her. Mosby struck her windshield with gunfire. The 911 dispatcher told Michelle's sister to back off, believing it was a road rage incident. The 911 operator believed it was a road rage incident because Mosby was actively trying to run Michelle's sister off of the road. Michelle's sister explained that she saw her sister abducted by Mosby and she feared she would never see her again if she didn't continue to tell Mosby.  Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have arrested a 50-year-old businessman, Osuoha Christian Iheanacho, at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, AIIA, Enugu, for ingesting 90 wraps of cocaine.   Osuoha was intercepted on Wednesday 20th November 2024 at the arrival hall of the Enugu airport during the inbound screening of passengers arriving from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on an Ethiopian airlines flight following months of intelligence and surveillance on him. He was subsequently placed on excretion observation during which he egested 90 pellets of cocaine weighing 2.019 kilograms in seven excretions.   Investigation reveals that the suspect who operates phone and accessories business in Lagos and Gabon, Central Africa, travelled by road from Gabon to Douala, Cameroon from where he took a flight to Addis Ababa where he swallowed the pellets of cocaine while in transit and thereafter continued his journey to Enugu with Lagos as his final destination.  Israel Kills Ali Mussa Daqduq Who Planned Attack On U.S. Soldiers In Iraq A recent Israeli airstrike in Syria killed a senior Hezbollah commander who helped plan one of the boldest and most sophisticated attacks against American troops during the Iraq War, according to a senior U.S. defense official. Ali Mussa Daqduq had been captured by U.S. forces following the 2007 raid in which militants posing as an American security team killed five U.S. soldiers. But he was later released by the Iraqi government. Details of the Israeli airstrike were scarce. It was not immediately clear when the strike took place, where in Syria or whether it targeted Daqduq specifically, the senior defense official said.  Onitsha North Mayor Condoles with Family of Elderly Man Killed in Traffic Incident By Chioma Nwankwo/Claribel Udah/Chika Obi  Tragedy struck on Old Market Road by Venn Road, Onitsha, when a tipper driver, driving against traffic, fatally struck an elderly pedestrian while attempting to evade traffic officers. The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was walking by the roadside when the unfortunate incident occurred.   The tipper driver, along with the vehicle, has been taken into police custody as investigations into the incident are underway.  Auditor-General uncovers N197bn contract fraud in MDAs A report by the Auditor-General of the Federation has exposed irregular payments for contracts totalling over N197.72bn across various ministries, departments, and agencies, raising serious concerns about systemic lapses in financial compliance and procurement processes. The findings, which are detailed in the Auditor-General’s Annual Report on Non-Compliance and Internal Control Weaknesses, cover activities between 2020 and 2021. They reveal violations of established financial regulations and procurement laws, with irregularities affecting multiple MDAs. The report was released to assist stakeholders, including the Public Accounts Committees of the National Assembly, in addressing these lapses and recovering the lost funds. One of the key findings in the report revealed irregularities in the award of contracts totalling N7.39bn. The breaches occurred in 32 MDAs and contravened Paragraph 2921(i) of the Financial Regulations (2009)
