 Nigeria Battle Tunisia, South Africa To Face Ghana In Women’s AFCON The Super Falcons of Nigeria have been drawn against Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana in Group B of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Nigeria, record holders of the competition, will be aiming to extend their impeccable form in the tournament.  Edo Declares Over 200 Govt Vehicles Missing, Recovers Three The committee set up by the Edo government to recover government assets says over 200 vehicles belonging to the state are missing.  The chairman of the committee Kelly Okungbowa shared the information with journalists in Benin City, the Edo State capital on Friday. He said three of these vehicles have been recovered less than a day after the group was inaugurated. Okungbowa assured the Edo people that the committee was determined to recover the missing government vehicles. According to him, bags of rice and garri meant to be palliatives from the Federal Government for the people of the state were discovered in one of the three vehicles recovered. Governor Monday Okpebholo – of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and who recently took over from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government – had set up the committee on Thursday to recover all government vehicles said to be in private custody.

 Supreme Court Rejects Suit Seeking To Compel FG To Account For Gas Earnings The Supreme Court has struck out a suit by the 36 state governments seeking to among others, compel the Federal Government to account for its earnings from the sale of liquefied natural gas, natural gas liquids and related products since 1999. In a unanimous judgment, a seven-member panel of the court, presided over by Justice Uwani Abba-Aji held that the court lacked the original jurisdiction to hear and determine the suit, which has the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) as the sole defendant. In the lead judgment, Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba upheld the preliminary objection raised against the suit by the AGF and held that the subject of the case had been dealt with by the Supreme Court in its earlier decision in the case of the Attorney General of Bauchi State against the AGF.  LP not working for Tinubu - Ifoh Labour Party has again denied working clandestinely for President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general election. The National Publicity Secretary of LP, Obiora Ifoh, clarified the party’s position in a statement issued in Abuja, on Friday. Ifoh’s rebuttal was in response to a viral video where a popular human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, claimed the party’s leadership was in cahoots with Tinubu’s loyalists to actualise his return to the State House in 2027. However, the LP spokesman dismissed the allegation, saying such an unholy alliance was a figment of Adeyanju’s imagination. Ifoh also challenged the activist to provide substantive evidence to back up his claim. President Filipe Nyusi invited Venancio Mondlane to his office in Maputo on November 26 after the killing of dozens of people in a police crackdown on demonstrations against the results of the October 9 election, AFP reported. A statement by the Permanent Secretary in the Bureau, Mrs. Arinola Adetayo, stated that the notice, purportedly issued by an unnamed individual, was not authorized by the government.  Bauchi couple cancels wedding days to ceremony over genotype results A Bauchi State resident, Muhammad Ibrahim, has cancelled his wedding ceremony after medical tests revealed he is not genetically compatible with his fiancée, Fatima Abdulqadir. In a Facebook post shared on November 21, 2024, Ibrahim announced the decision to call off the wedding, which was scheduled for November 29, 2024.  He explained that both he and his fiancée were AS genotype carriers, posing a significant risk of having children with sickle cell disease.  Cameroon detains five Nigerian pastors over politician’s abduction Five Nigerian pastors and others residing in the Idabato II community of Cameroon, formerly known as the Bakassi Peninsula, have been arrested and detained by the Cameroonian authorities. Their detention followed the kidnap of the community’s Divisional Officer, Ewane Roland, by armed men in early October. A former chairman of the Yoruba community in the defunct Bakassi Peninsula, Eniola Alabo, disclosed this to newsmen during an interview on Tuesday. Local media had reported that Roland, alongside another official of the council, Etongo Ismaeil, was whisked away on October 1, 2024, by gunmen who used a flying boat in the coastal area.  Gunmen kidnap journalist’s relatives, demand N50m ransom Gunmen on Thursday afternoon, have abducted three relatives of former Daily Trust Editor, Ahmed Ajobe. The victims include a male and two females including Ajobe’s immediate younger sister, Halimtu-Sadiya Tahir. City Round gathered that they were abducted on their way from a nearby community market in Awo, in the Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State, along the deplorable Ankpa-Adoka-Markudi road. Ajobe who had lost his mother, Malama Aishetu Tahir on Sunday after a protracted illness was preparing for the seven days prayers. The victims were said to have gone to the market to purchase items for the seven-day prayers of the ace journalist’s deceased mother when they were kidnapped.
