President Bola Tinubu has identified the creative economy as a pivotal element of his administrationās economic diversification agenda, reaffirming his commitment to positioning Nigeriaās creative sector as a driving force for global influence.
The President stated this at the launch of the 2024 Abuja International Carnival at Eagle Square, Abuja.
President Tinubu, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, said the carnival reaffirms the essence of who Nigerians areāāa people of culture, a people of art, a people of colour, and a people of shared valuesā.
In a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to The President on Media & Communications, Office of The Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, under the theme, āCarnival of Renewed Hope: A Pledge to My Countryā, the event showcased performances from across Nigeria and beyond, demonstrating the administrationās commitment to cultural diplomacy.
The Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, working alongside the Federal Capital Territory Administration and the Abuja International Carnival Secretariat, also received presidential commendation for their role in organising the event.
Hannatu Musawa, the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary, Oraelumo Raphael, described the carnival as a unique platform involving Nigeriaās 36 states, the FCT, and participants from around the world. He reiterated the Federal Ministryās role as the coordinating body and the FCTās role as host.
The Abuja International Carnival continues to serve as a vibrant showcase of Nigeriaās rich cultural heritage and a platform for fostering international collaboration and understanding.
