 Man Sentenced to 8 Years for Stealing Transformer Coil in Yobe A 26-year-old man, Nasiru Lawan, has been sentenced to eight years in a correctional facility for stealing a 37kg transformer coil wire valued at approximately N1 million from the Government Girls Unity College, Damaturu, Yobe State. Lawan was charged on October 11, 2024, by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), with two counts of tampering with and stealing transformer coil wire in case No: FHC/DM/CR/40/2024. The prosecution, led by Barrister Jidda Abdulqadir, presented compelling evidence and testimonies from NSCDC’s intelligence and investigation department, leading to Lawan's conviction. Lawan and an accomplice, still at large, vandalized the school's transformer on September 8, 2024. He was arrested the following day while trying to sell the stolen copper coil wire.  I Will Leave Office A Free Man, Without Fear Of EFCC —Hope Uzodinma


Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has boasted that he will leave office as a free man, unafraid of being pursued by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, or any other organization.


 


Speaking after the Feast of Christ the King Mass at the Government House Chapel in Owerri, Uzodimma challenged anyone with evidence of wrongdoing to present it.


 


“I will leave office a free man, sleep with my two eyes closed without being afraid of anybody, including the EFCC”, he said.


 


The governor maintained that he has not broken any promises made to the people of Imo.


 


He expressed assurance in the legacy of prosperity, infrastructure, and dignity that his administration is establishing for the state.


 


This statement follows the EFCC’s arrest of former Delta State governor Ifeanyi Okowa over allegations of misappropriating funds totaling N1.3 trillion.
