  President Bola Tinubu has identified the creative economy as a pivotal element of his administration’s economic diversification agenda, reaffirming his commitment to positioning Nigeria’s creative sector as a driving force for global influence. The President stated this at the launch of the 2024 Abuja International Carnival at Eagle Square, Abuja. President Tinubu, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, said the carnival reaffirms the essence of who Nigerians are—”a people of culture, a people of art, a people of colour, and a people of shared values”.  Onitsha North Mayor Condoles with Family of Elderly Man Killed in Traffic Incident

Tragedy struck on Old Market Road by Venn Road, Onitsha, when a tipper driver, driving against traffic, fatally struck an elderly pedestrian while attempting to evade traffic officers.


The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was walking by the roadside when the unfortunate incident occurred.  


The tipper driver, along with the vehicle, has been taken into police custody as investigations into the incident are underway.


Security agents promptly arrived at the scene to manage the chaotic aftermath, preventing further unrest and ensuring public order.  


In response to the incident, the Mayor of Onitsha North LGA, Mr. Nweze Tony Nwora, expressed profound sorrow and extended his condolences to the bereaved family. "This incident underscores the critical importance of adhering to traffic rules to safeguard lives on our roads."  


The Mayor called for increased road safety awareness and responsible driving practices to prevent such tragedies in the future. He assured residents that the Onitsha North local government will collaborate with law enforcement to enforce stricter traffic regulations.  


The body of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary as the community mourns the loss of a life due to reckless driving.
