19 out of 38 Directors Fail Permanent Secretary Qualifying Exam — Head of Service

Of the 38 directors shortlisted for the position of permanent secretary in the Federal Civil Service, 19 have failed the qualifying exam.

In October, the Federal Government, through the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), launched the selection process to appoint new permanent secretaries to fill vacancies in eight states.

A memo from the OHCSF, dated October 7, 2024, and signed by Head of Civil Service Didi Walson-Jack, confirmed that officials undergoing disciplinary procedures were ineligible to apply. The memo also noted that President Bola Tinubu had approved the appointment process.

Providing an update, Eno Olotu, the Director of Press at OHCSF, stated, “Out of the 38 eligible directors who took the exam, 19 passed the first stage and will proceed to the second stage, which will assess their proficiency in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for government operations on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.”

Olotu highlighted that the recruitment process is a rigorous, three-stage procedure aimed at ensuring only the most qualified candidates are selected.

The successful candidates from the second stage will advance to the final stage on Friday, November 15, 2024, where they will face a panel of senior bureaucrats and private sector representatives.
