This was revealed during a demonstration on Monday at the governor’s office, where Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, was shown how the e-ticketing system works, allowing passengers to obtain tickets effortlessly.  Nasarawa: Man Arrested for Stealing Lawyer’s Car Police officers from the Masaka Division in Nasarawa State have apprehended Sunday Bidemi in connection with car theft following a tip-off. In a statement released on Monday, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed that a Toyota Corolla with the registration number ABJ 730 KE was recovered during the operation. Nansel stated that initial investigations revealed the suspect had stolen the vehicle in October 2024. The vehicle belongs to Barrister Wilson Egwun of Wuse II, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. “The investigation shows that the suspect took the vehicle, which belongs to Barr. Wilson Egwun of Wuse II, FCT, Abuja, sometime in October 2024,” Nansel said. The police spokesperson also mentioned that the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, has instructed that the suspect be charged to court once investigations are complete.

 Doctors Warn Americans of Quadruple Viral Threat   This winter, Americans face four simultaneous viral threats: the flu, COVID-19, norovirus (stomach flu), and RSV (respiratory syncytial virus).  Doctors fear a rise in hospitalizations due to low booster vaccine uptake for COVID-19 this year. Hospitals are preparing for a potential surge in patients.  Flu vaccination rates are also low. While the recommended protection level is 70%, only about 35% of American adults have received a flu shot.  None of the four viruses have peaked yet. Experts predict outbreaks between January and March, especially as people travel by plane during the holiday season.  Hospitalization rates for viral infections rose by 14% in the week of December 1-7, reaching 3.3% of all hospital admissions. Two weeks prior, the rate was 2.9%. Louisiana and Georgia currently have the highest infection rates in the United States.

  A 25-year-old male suspect was arrested in Hazyview during a stop and search operation as part of Operation Safer Festive Season The police found a rifle, over 70 live rounds of ammunition, and two magazines in the vehicle. The suspect was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm with ammunition and was also found with damaged bank notes and other items. Further investigation revealed that the suspect is currently out on bail for possession of an unlicensed firearm and house robbery. The police suspect that the vehicle may have been stolen due to its inauthentic registration number plates. The suspect is set to appear in court on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, and may face additional charges as the investigation continues. More photos below.

 In a new wave of cyberattacks, hackers are targeting popular YouTube creators with fake brand collaboration offers to deliver malware, according to a report by cybersecurity firm CloudSEK. The attackers trick victims by sending fraudulent emails that include documents disguised as contracts or promotional materials. These files are typically shared through password-protected links hosted on platforms like OneDrive to avoid detection by security tools. Once the file is downloaded and opened, the malware installs itself on the victim’s computer. Security researcher Mayank Sahariya explained that the malware can steal sensitive information such as login credentials, financial data, and intellectual property. It also gives hackers remote access to the victim’s system, potentially allowing them to cause further harm or carry out additional attacks. The cybercriminals usually include detailed instructions and a OneDrive link to a zip file in their emails, making the fake brand offer app...

 President Tinubu chairs Federal Executive Council Meeting President Bola Tinubu is presently chairing the Federal Executive Council meeting. The President arrived at the Council Chamber of the State House Abuja for the meeting at about 1:20 PM. Members of the FEC consist of ministers and some presidential aides among others. Vice President Kashim Shettima is not present at the meeting as he is away for an official assignment in Dubai. He is also expected to proceed to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for the lesser Hajj. With exactly two weeks to the end of 2024, it is not certain if this will be the last meeting of the FEC in the year.  However, President Tinubu is expected to lay the 2025 Appropriation Bill before the National Assembly on Tuesday, a day after FEC.

 Nigerian Man Arrested in Delhi for Scamming Indian Woman of Over N9m with Fake Marriage Proposal A Nigerian man, Johnson, has been arrested in Delhi for deceiving an Indian woman from Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, with a fake matrimonial profile and a false promise of marriage.  Johnson, who had overstayed his visa, swindled the woman out of ₹15,72,000 (approximately ₦9,100,000) by pretending to be a UK-based businessman. He convinced her he was stranded at Delhi airport and needed money for currency exchange, only to disappear after receiving the funds. Following a police investigation, Johnson was apprehended, and authorities recovered a laptop and several mobile phones from him.

 Anglican Church Faces New Abuse Scandal as Senior Bishop Faces Resignation Calls Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell, is under pressure to resign over his handling of a sexual abuse case involving priest David Tudor, who was allowed to continue in ministry despite a history of abuse allegations.  Cottrell, soon to temporarily lead the Church, faces criticism for failing to take stronger action during his tenure as Bishop of Chelmsford, where Tudor was banned from being alone with children but still allowed to oversee parishes. The scandal follows an independent investigation that led to the resignation of Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby over similar abuse cover-ups.

  Indians might soon enjoy visa-free travel to Russia as the two nations work towards easing travel restrictions. A new system, likely to begin by spring 2025, is under discussion to implement visa-free group tourist exchanges. Talks between India and Russia regarding this agreement were first reported in June this year. This initiative aims to strengthen bilateral ties and boost tourism between the two countries. Currently, Indian nationals require a visa issued by the Russian Embassy or Consulates to enter, stay, or exit Russia. The process has been lengthy and cumbersome for travelers. However, since August 2023, Indian citizens have been able to apply for e-visas to Russia, which are processed in about four days. The final ended in a 1-1 draw during regulation time, but India held their nerve in the shootout to claim a 3-2 victory and secure their second consecutive title in the tournament.  EFCC Re-Arraigns Ex-Bank PHB MD, Francis Atuche, Two Others For Forgery in Lagos  The Lagos Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, December 16, 2024, re-arraigned a former Managing Director of the defunct Bank PHB Plc, Francis Atuche, on a nine-count charge bordering on conspiracy to commit felony and forgery before Justice O. O. Abike-Fadipe of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos. Atuche alongside Nnosiri Joachim, a.k.a Ifeanyi, and Uguru Onyike had first been  arraigned before Justice Habeeb Abiru, who has now been upgraded as a Judge of the Court of Appeal.  The case consequently started de novo before Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo, who has now been transferred to another division of the Lagos High Court.  Ongoing… President of the Autonomous National Electoral Commission of Benin(CENA)of the Republic Benin Republic Dr Sacca Lafia Led a 12-member delegation, comprising National Commissioners, Directors and critical staff  on a study visit to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) The delegation was warmly received by the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, and other Commission members at INEC Headquarters in Abuja. The primary aim of the visit was for CENA to learn from Nigeria’s electoral processes, procedures, and best practices as they prepare for their upcoming 2026 elections. More photos below.
