The Airbus A320, which had departed from Leon, Guanajuato, at 7:17 am local time and was headed for Tijuana, made an emergency landing at Guadalajara International Airport about 45 minutes into the flight. Authorities stated that the man assaulted a flight attendant and tried to enter the cockpit to reroute the plane. The suspect, traveling with family, claimed his relative had been kidnapped and that he was threatened with death if he continued to Tijuana. Despite the situation, the crew managed to restrain him, and the flight continued to Tijuana after the emergency landing. The flight was operated by Volaris, and details on the number of passengers were not disclosed. The incident occurred in Guanajuato, a region severely affected by drug cartel violence, including extortion and kidnapping.
