RETAILERS TO BEGIN LIFTING PETROL FROM PORT HARCOURT REFINERY THIS WEEK- PETROAN.(PHOTO).

Retailers to Begin Lifting Petrol from Port Harcourt Refinery This Week – PETROAN

Marketers and retailers of petroleum products are set to start lifting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from the Port Harcourt Refining Company this week, barring any last-minute changes, according to the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN).

Joseph Obele, the association's Publicity Secretary, confirmed this in an exclusive interview, stating that since the refinery resumed operations in November, it had been supplying fuel exclusively to retail outlets owned by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). However, Obele clarified that the fuel being supplied by NNPCL to marketers had been imported.

Obele raised concerns over the higher prices for PMS in Port Harcourt, where retailers are currently paying more than those in Lagos, despite logistical explanations. He called for the refinery to sell at N899 per litre, the same rate as in Lagos, instead of the current N970 per litre being charged in Port Harcourt.

He emphasized that Port Harcourt retail outlet owners are uncomfortable with the pricing disparity, urging that the same rates should apply across both locations now that the refinery is directly supplying the region.

When asked if marketers in the area had begun purchasing fuel directly from the NNPC refinery, Obele confirmed that they had not yet started but would begin this week.

Obele further reiterated the association’s request for the NNPC to sell fuel from the Port Harcourt refinery at the same price as in Lagos, citing the higher cost of the product in Port Harcourt.

In response to questions regarding the NNPC’s supply, Obele affirmed that the fuel supplied to Lagos is sourced from imports.

The NNPC had resumed operations at the Port Harcourt refinery in November, with rehabilitation work ongoing at its newer 150,000-barrel-per-day facility, which is expected to be completed soon.

NNPC spokesman Olufemi Soneye confirmed that the refinery currently produces naptha, which is blended to create petrol.
