Ouattara wants 'to continue' as Côte d'Ivoire's President Côte d'Ivoire President Alassane Ouattara said on Thursday he would like to continue serving his country as president but emphasised that his party had not yet made a formal decision on its candidate for this year's election, TRT Afrika reported. Ouattara, 83, was re-elected for a third term in 2020 following a 2016 constitutional referendum allowing him to extend his rule. During the last election, Ouattara had argued that the approval of the new constitution allowed him to restart his mandate. He has previously said he would like to step down, but also suggested he would need old rivals to commit to withdrawing from politics too. "I am in good health and eager to continue serving my country," he said in an address to the diplomatic corps in Abidjan, the strongest signal yet that he plans to stand again.  Abducted Bauchi Children Rescued, Reunited with Families in Anambra

Three children abducted from Bauchi State and trafficked to Anambra State have been successfully rescued and reunited with their families, thanks to a joint operation by the Bauchi and Anambra State Police Commands, supported by the Office of the First Lady and the Gender-Based Violence Committee.

The handover ceremony was held at the Bauchi Government House, where Commissioner of Police Mohammed Auwal Musa provided details of the operation to Governor Bala Mohammed.

Governor Mohammed expressed deep gratitude to all those involved, particularly the First Ladies of Bauchi and Anambra states, for their dedication to combating child trafficking. He commended the security agencies for their professionalism and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting children and ensuring that perpetrators face justice.

“As a government, we are steadfast in our resolve to fight these heinous crimes. Justice will be served, and offenders will face the full weight of the law,” the governor declared.

He also urged parents to remain vigilant and community leaders to actively protect their neighborhoods, emphasizing the shared responsibility of safeguarding children.

The families of the rescued children expressed heartfelt gratitude to the government and stakeholders for restoring hope and joy to their lives.

Earlier, Commissioner of Police Mohammed Auwal Musa highlighted the success of the operation, attributing it to strong collaboration with the Anambra State Police Command.
