Ouattara wants 'to continue' as Côte d'Ivoire's President Côte d'Ivoire President Alassane Ouattara said on Thursday he would like to continue serving his country as president but emphasised that his party had not yet made a formal decision on its candidate for this year's election, TRT Afrika reported. Ouattara, 83, was re-elected for a third term in 2020 following a 2016 constitutional referendum allowing him to extend his rule. During the last election, Ouattara had argued that the approval of the new constitution allowed him to restart his mandate. He has previously said he would like to step down, but also suggested he would need old rivals to commit to withdrawing from politics too. "I am in good health and eager to continue serving my country," he said in an address to the diplomatic corps in Abidjan, the strongest signal yet that he plans to stand again.  ICPC Seeks Action Against Unregulated Herbal Drinks Amid Health Concerns

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has urged the Nigerian Natural Medicines Development Agency (NNMDA) to tackle the rising proliferation of unregulated herbal drinks across the country.

Speaking during a one-day training webinar on transparency and accountability in public institutions, Kabir Elelu, the ICPC Resident Commissioner for Lagos State, highlighted the public health risks posed by the widespread consumption of unregulated herbal mixtures, often referred to as “Ala Agbo.”

Elelu stressed the need for immediate intervention, noting that many of these herbal concoctions, sold by hawkers, are endangering lives.

“An area that requires urgent attention is natural medicine. How can we harness and regulate it to protect public health? The proliferation of these unregulated herbal drinks has become a significant issue,” Elelu stated.

He added, “Some of these mixtures are harming our people. The unchecked sale of these concoctions across the country is contributing to a surge in liver cirrhosis and other related health conditions. This is a nationwide problem that requires a solution.”

The ICPC’s call highlights the urgency of regulating the natural medicine industry to ensure public safety.
