A 9-month-old Missouri baby will never be the same if he survives after his mom's boyfriend bear hugs him until he stops screaming.
28-year-old Jordan Boggess is being charged with child abuse after a September 14th incident that left a 9-month-old boy clinging to life.
On that day, the mother of the child, referred to only as "Waylon" left him in a jumper so she could take a shower. While showering the child was left in the care of her boyfriend, Jordan Boggess.
Shortly after being alone with the baby, Waylon "became sick" and began to cry. Under his own admission, Jordan Boggess told investigators when Waylon began crying, he picked him up and threw him in the air and caught him.
However on the second toss, he claims his hands were sweaty and he dropped the baby. We should note here, doctors at Children's Mercy Hospital claim the child has suffered head trauma.
However, the ordeal this poor baby went through was not over after being tossed to the floor. Boggess has also admitted after picking Waylon up from the ground, he placed the baby in a bear hug until Waylon quit screaming.
There is no information available pertaining to the mother and how she became aware Waylon was experiencing an abuse related medical emergency. However Newton County Central 911 was called and alerted of a baby in distress and not breathing. Waylon was rushed by ambulance to Freeman West in Joplin, but was quickly transferred to Children's Mercy in Kansas City, Missouri.
Once at Children's Mercy, Doctors quickly discounted the choking/aspiration scenario and contacted authorities with abuse allegations. They told investigators Waylon suffered bruising on his head but said it may be weeks until the full extent of Waylon's injuries are known. Doctors stated the reason for the delay being Waylon was too critical for a full body x-ray.
Family members have been with Waylon around the clock. Sadly they say even if Waylon survives he will be wheelchair bound and unable to talk or feed himself.
Jordan Boggess has been formally charged with felony abuse and neglect of a child with serious physical injury. He is being held in Newton County Jail with no bond.
We will update.
