 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. GRACE ONYE &NGOZI IKEH,BUY'S & SELL'S BABIES FOR A LIVING.

•Grace Onye (r) and her friend who needed a child      An Onitcha based human trafficker,mrs Grace Onye,52 years old told the police through her confessional statement that she specialises in the illegal business of buying babies in Lagos for sale  to those who required them.she admitted that it was not her first time of coming to Lagos to buy babies,adding that she had been coming to lagos to buy babies in the past 3 years.she told the police that she sold all the babies to those in need,especially barren women.she was arrested along with her customer,45 years old mrs Ngozi Ikeh who is barren and needed a child.they were arrested at Ikotun in the morning while going back to Onitsha with a stole baby sold to them for N300,000 by their contact man who is now at large.the suspects confessed that they had a contact man simply identified as Samuel who usaully lodged them at Francis inn hotel located at Abiola street,Igando road,Ikotun whenever they are in Lagos to buy babies.Grace confessed further that it was in that hotel that Samuel brought the baby and collected N300,000.Joy Olowolade,the 2 tear old stolen baby was allegedly kidnapped at 6,Oladunjoye street,off Igando road,Ikotun Lagos.Samuel abducted the baby at stated address in a dramaticform around 4pm on monday,when he threw a banger in the compound where Joy was playing with other kids.the sound of the banger caused confusion in the compound and the children ran in away in different directions.when the dust settled,Joy was no where to be found.her elder sister,Eniola Olowolade,after searching for her sister alerted her parents,Ayodele and Funke Olowolade,of her disappearance.Neigbours confirmed that she saw the man who snatded the baby during the confusion.Olowolade and neigbours later arranged themselves in groups to look for the Joy but they did see her.Around 4am,the following day,the Olowolade's and their neigbours moved round the streets again,looking for Joy.that's when they saw a woman,walking briskly and carrying a baby on her back with her friend.somebody shouted the name of the missing baby and Joy answered ma.immediately the baby answered,the trafficker and her friend ran.they tried to drop the baby but they were caught by the rescuers.they were beaten and later handed over to the police at Ikotun Division who transferred them to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
