 Sultan of Sokoto Urges Moon Sighting for Eid el-Fitr The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Saā€™ad Abubakar, has called on Muslims nationwide to observe the new moon of Shawwal 1446AH on Saturday, March 29, 2025. In a statement issued on Friday by the Waziri ofFIT Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, Chairman of the Sultanate Councilā€™s Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, the moon sighting will determine the end of Ramadan and the date for Eid el-Fitr celebrations. March 29 marks the 29th day of Ramadan 1446AH, making it the earliest possible date for sighting the new moon. The Sultan urged anyone who sights the moon to report their observations using the designated phone numbers provided. Muslims are encouraged to participate in the moon sighting, as it plays a crucial role in determining the official date for Eid. The Sultanate Council will announce the final decision based on verified reports.

 Assam Police recently arrested a group of individuals involved in a crypto scam.  The suspects allegedly lured victims with promises of quick profits through fraudulent cryptocurrency schemes. Following an investigation, the police apprehended the scammers and confiscated evidence related to their activities. To announce the arrest, Assam Police shared an image on their official Instagram account, styled in the animation style of Studio Ghibli. The image depicted the scammers sitting in front of a police station with officers standing behind them. The post was captioned, ā€œThey thought they were in a Studio Ghibli plot! Magical money, vanishing wallets, no consequences. We gave these crypto scammers a very real ending.ā€ The post quickly gained attention on social media, receiving hundreds of likes and comments. Users praised the police for their creative announcement while also raising awareness about crypto-related fraud.

The state's Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, confirmed the withdrawal in a statement, emphasizing the government's commitment to upholding students' rights and ensuring a conducive learning environment.   A devastating fire outbreak has ravaged parts of the Onitsha Main Market in Anambra State, Nigeria. The blaze, which began at approximately 6:20 am on Friday, quickly spread to adjacent buildings, causing widespread damage. Eyewitnesses report that residents, passersby, and firefighters are working tirelessly to salvage properties and goods from the affected buildings. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. Chukwudi Chiketa, Head of the Media and Publicity Unit of the Anambra State Fire Service, confirmed the incident and urged the public to remain calm. "Anambra State Fire Service is currently on intervention at the scene of the fire outbreak at Ifejika Street, by Sokoto Road, Onitsha," Chiketa stated. Firefighters responded promptly to the distress call, which came in at 6:20 am. Chiketa assured the public that the situation is under control and that firefighters are working to quench the flames.

 Oyo Govt not against Sharia Panel Operation, says Makinde The Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, has cleared the air on the plan to apply Sharia Law in some states of the South-West, including Oyo, noting that his administration will not oppose anything that is in line with the Constitution. The clarification came against the backdrop of a media report that the Oyo State Government would go to court to challenge the plan. Governor Makinde declared that members of the public can approach the Sharia Panel if they feel like doing so.  Alaafin Undergoes Final Traditional Rites, Coronation Scheduled for April The final phase of traditional rites (Oro Ipebi) for the Alaafin-elect, Oba Akeem Owoade I, will take place tonight at the Sango shrine in Koso, Oyo town. According to a statement from Bode Durojaiye, Director of Media and Publicity to the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Owoade will be accompanied by the Oyo Mesi, royal family members, traditional priests, village heads (Baales), and some residents. The ceremony includes an overnight stay at the shrine, where Baba Mogba will place the sacred Sango crown on the Alaafin-elect in the early hours of Saturday, officially marking him as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo. Following this, attendees, including the Oyo Mesi, will pay homage to the new monarch. The coronation is set for April 5, 2025, at Oliveth Heights, Oyo.
