 Imo: Protest Rocks Owerri Over Demolition of Old Timber Market Residents of Umuonyima community in Owerri Municipal Council of Imo State took to the streets to protest the demolition of the Old Timber Market by the state government. The protesters, led by community leaders, expressed their outrage over the sudden demolition, which they claim was carried out without adequate notice. According to Christian Anukam, President General of the Community, the government's action was "inhumane" and caught them off guard. "They came and informed us just a day before the demolition," Anukam said, adding that the community had supported the APC-led administration of Hope Uzodinma. Community leaders, including Paschal Ugwuanyi and Prince Mike Ukaegbu, emphasized that the land was released to them in 2007 for the market and that they were not given sufficient time to secure their goods before the demolition.  UNIZIK to Confer Honorary Degree on Seyi Tinubu as 8,157 Students Graduate at 19th Convocation


Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, is set to graduate 8,157 students during its 19th convocation ceremony for the 2023/2024 academic session. The event, beginning on Wednesday, March 25, will feature a convocation lecture by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.


Speaking at a press briefing, the acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu, announced that the university would confer honorary degrees on three distinguished individuals for their contributions to societal and institutional development. The honorees include the Minister of Health, Dr. Ali Pate; industrialist, Chief Chika Emenike; and Oluwaseyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.


Ikechebelu highlighted the universityā€™s commitment to academic, infrastructural, and administrative excellence, noting improvements in security, digitalization, and electricity supply on campus. He assured attendees of a well-organized and secure convocation ceremony while emphasizing ongoing campus development projects.
