I grow them for over 25 years, Woman with longest fingernails says
A woman from Minnesota, United States of America, Diana Armstrong, who broke the record for the longest fingernails on a pair of hands (female) and the longest fingernails on a pair of hands ever (female), has been growing her fingernails for over 25 years.
Although the record was broken in 2022, the Guinness World Records, in a post via its X handle on Tuesday, April 30, revealed that the combined length of Armstrong's fingernails is longer than a standard yellow school bus.
According to Armstrong, her late daughter was the only who usually manicured her nails every weekend until she died after an asthma attack.
The post reads in part: "Diana Armstrong from Minnesota, USA has been growing her fingernails for over 25 years. Measuring 1,306.58 cm (42 ft 10.4 in) as of 13 March 2022, the combined length of Diana's fingernails is longer than a standard yellow school bus!
"Diana last cut her nails in 1997. But shortly after, a tragic accident rocked her family and she vowed to never trim them again. Diana had started her day as normal, by asking her kids to get out of bed and going off to the grocery store to get food for her family.
"But while she was shopping, she received a panicked call from her youngest daughter.
" 'At the store, my baby daughter called me and told me 'Ma, Tisha won’t wake up'.
"At just 16 years old, Diana’s daughter, Latisha, had passed away in her sleep from an asthma attack.
" 'That was the worst day of my life'.
"Diana, who has always had longer than average nails, used to have them manicured by Latisha every weekend.
'She was the only one who did my nails. She polished them and filed them for me'.
"Throughout the years that followed, Diana's children tried convincing their mom to trim her fingernails.
"My kids said 'Ma, you need to cut your nails.' I would tell them 'Mind your business'.
"Once she finally revealed her motives to her children, she was met with acceptance and understanding.
"'When she told us the back story, it kind of changed my feelings towards it', said Diana’s daughter, Rania."
