He questioned why such a dark day in Christian history is still called "good," answering that it is not because of Christ’s suffering, but because of the hope and transformation that follow through the Resurrection. “Salvation does not end in death but triumphs in Easter,” the Bishop stated, emphasizing that Good Friday is the threshold to victory, not defeat. ‎ ‎Drawing from Catholic theology, Bishop Badejo explained how the b...

Court asked to extend sentence of Nicholas Prosper The Court of Appeal has been asked to review the sentence of a teenager who killed three members of his family and planned a school shooting. Nicholas Prosper, 19, has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 49 years for murdering his mother, brother and sister in Luton last year. The bodies of Juliana Falcon, 48, Kyle Prosper, 16, and Giselle Prosper, 13, were found at their home in the Leabank Court tower block in September. The government’s solicitor general has referred the case to appeal after multiple referrals including one from a Conservative MP who argued that Prosper should have received a whole life order instead, which would mean he would never be released from jail. The Attorney General’s Office had received requests to reconsider Prosper’s sentence under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme. In March, the Conservative shadow justice minister Kieran Mullan questioned why a whole life order was not imposed in a post ...

RUSSIA REMOVES TALIBAN FROM LIST OF TERRORIST GROUPS. (PHOTO).

Russia removes Taliban from list of terrorist groups Russia on Thursday lifted its ban on the Taliban, which it had tagged for more than two decades as a terrorist organisation. The move paves the way for Moscow to normalise ties with the leadership of Afghanistan. No country currently recognises the Taliban government, which seized power in August 2021 as US-led forces staged a chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan after 20 years of war. However, Russia has been gradually strengthening ties with the movement, which President Vladimir Putin said last year was now an ally in fighting terrorism. Russia outlawed the Taliban as a terrorist movement in 2003. According to the state media, the Supreme Court on Thursday lifted the ban with immediate effect. Russia reportedly sees a need to work with the Taliban as it faces a major security threat from Islamist militant groups based in a string of countries from Afghanistan to the Middle East. Recall that gunmen in March 2024, killed no fewe...

Image

Niger’s Energy Minister, Haoua Amadou, confirmed the development, stating: “Nigeria has resumed delivering electricity but only providing 46 megawatts instead of the usual 80 megawatts.” She explained that the reduction has caused Niger’s electricity production to fall by 30 to 50 percent, leading the national power utility Nigelec to implement power rationing across several regions, including the capital, Niamey. “The measure has led the country’s electricity production to fall by 30 to 50 percent, and forced state-owned power company Nigelec to impose planned power cuts that can last several days, especially in Niamey,” Amadou said. The cuts follow Nigeria’s earlier suspension of electricity exports to Niger as part of sanctions imposed by ECOWAS after the July 2023 ...

US JUDGE FINDS GOOGLE ILLEGALLY MONOPOLISED AD TECH MARKET. (PHOTO).

US judge finds Google illegally monopolised ad tech market A United States judge has ruled that Alphabet’s Google illegally dominated two markets for online advertising technology, dealing another blow to the tech titan in an antitrust case brought by the US government. On Thursday, US District Judge Leonie Brinkema, in Alexandria, Virginia, ruled that Google unlawfully monopolised markets for publisher ad servers and the market for ad exchanges, which sit between buyers and sellers. Antitrust enforcers failed to show the company had a monopoly in advertiser ad networks, she wrote. The ruling could allow prosecutors to argue for a breakup of Google’s advertising products. The US Department of Justice has said that Google should have to sell off at least its Google Ad Manager, which includes the company’s publisher ad server and its ad exchange. Google will now face the possibility of two different US courts ordering it to sell assets or change its business practices. A judge in Wa...
