An Indiana high-school girls' basketball game ended in tragedy after a referee collapsed on court.  On the night of December 12th, the girls' basketball team at Monrovia High School was playing Speedway High School. With only 6 minutes left in the second quarter, an emergency halted the game, and fans were evacuated from the gymnasium.  Sadly, a long-time referee, Jeff Tamarri, had collapsed while officiating the game. A defibrillator was reportedly used within a minute of his collapse, and EMTs arrived just moments later. Sadly, despite everyone's best efforts, Jeff was pronounced deceased on scene by EMTs. Monrovia High School said they will have counselors available for students who may be affected by Tamarri's sudden passing. Our thoughts are with the family of Jeff Tamarri as well as the community as a whole.

 PRESS RELEASE

6TH OSOM GAMES TODAY DECLARED OPEN BY THE NSC CHAIRMAN.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) is making headlines once again with its commitment to promoting Nigerian athletes through regular internal competitions. Today, Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), declared the 6th OSOM Games open in a colourful ceremony at the Moshood Abiola International Stadium in Abuja. This statement reinforces the Commission's dedication to their Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigerian Sports Economy (RHINSE) mandate and their goal of turning sports from a field of consumption to one of production.

The OSOM Games, which stands for One Service One Medal, is an inter-security agency competition that aims to foster unity and camaraderie among the various security agencies in Nigeria. It also serves as a platform for discovering new talents and keeping athletes actively engaged.

Dikko recognizes the significant role that the security agencies have played in Nigeria's sporting history and believes that they still have the potential to produce top-class athletes for the country.

With the RHINSE mandate, given by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the NSC is focused on organizing regular competitions to discover and nurture new talents.

This aligns with their broader vision of reforming the Nigerian sports sector and shifting the focus from consumption to production.

Dikko highlights the importance of local competitions like the OSOM Games in achieving this goal and emphasizes the Commission's commitment to making it a success.

The 6th OSOM Games promises to be an exciting six days of competition, and all eyes will be on the athletes as they compete for medals and glory. As the NSC continues to prioritize internal competitions, it is believed that this will lead to the discovery of new talents and the development of a stronger sports economy in Nigeria.

In conclusion, the NSC's commitment to regular internal competitions and its focus on turning sports into a production field is a positive step towards the development of Nigerian sports. The 6th OSOM Games is just one of the many initiatives taken by the Commission to achieve this goal, and it is expected to have a significant impact on the Nigerian sporting landscape. Let us continue to support and celebrate our athletes as they compete in the OSOM Games and future competitions organized by the National Sports Commission.
