Israel to keep border crossing closed amid ceasefire dispute with Hamas  The Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt will remain closed until further notice, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Saturday, tying its reopening to Hamas handing over the bodies of deceased hostages. The closure comes amid ongoing disputes over alleged ceasefire violations between Israel and Hamas. Netanyahu’s announcement followed a statement from the Palestinian embassy in Egypt claiming the crossing would reopen on Monday for entry into Gaza. Both sides have exchanged accusations: the U.S. State Department warned of “credible reports indicating an imminent ceasefire violation by Hamas against the people of Gaza,” describing any attack on civilians as a “direct and grave violation” of the truce. Hamas denied the claims, instead accusing Israeli authorities of supporting armed gangs involved in killings, kidnappings, and looting, and said Gaza police were working to hold those gang...

The destruction across Gaza has been described as unprecedented, with entire neighborhoods leveled and infrastructure obliterated after two years of fighting. United Nations officials said more than 81,000 tons of debris have already been cleared, but it remains uncertain when full-scale reconstruction will begin or who will bear the financial burden. Former U.S. representative for Palestinian affairs Hady Amr described the devastation as incomparable in modern times, noting that roughly 83% of buildings in Gaza City alone were damaged, and nearly half of them were completely destroyed. Schools, hospitals, and essential services such as water and electricity systems have been decimated, leaving many Palestinians...

OKLAHOMA DROPS MANDATE FOR BIBLES IN EVERY CLASSROOM. (PHOTO).

Image
Oklahoma drops mandate for Bibles in every classroom The Oklahoma Department of Education is withdrawing a 2024 directive that required teachers to have the Christian Bible in every classroom and include it in lessons, following challenges that it violated the Constitution. The directive was introduced by former state superintendent Ryan Walters, who resigned last month. The Oklahoma Supreme Court had blocked the policy while teachers and parents from diverse religious backgrounds filed a lawsuit arguing that the Bible mandate breached the U.S. Constitution’s prohibition on state endorsement of religion. The Oklahoma Constitution goes further, requiring public schools and funding to remain nonsectarian and not favor any particular religion. The state’s largest teachers union also opposed the mandate, noting that local school districts and educators, not the state, should decide which books are used in classrooms. New superintendent Lindel Fields was given two weeks to decide wheth...
