RoboCop statue finally unveiled in Detroit after nearly 15 years A 11-foot-tall bronze statue of the iconic science fiction hero RoboCop has finally been installed in Detroit, nearly 15 years after the idea first emerged. The 2.5-ton sculpture, depicting RoboCop as played by Peter Weller in the 1987 film, now stands outside the Free Age Production Studio in Detroit’s Eastern Market. Jim Toscano, the studio’s owner, expressed excitement over the installation, calling it “super impressive” and noting that it has already drawn visitors to the area. The project began in 2011 after a public exchange with then-Mayor Dave Bing sparked a fan-led campaign to bring the statue to life. Community arts advocate Brandon Walley and entrepreneur Jerry Paffendorf launched a Kickstarter that raised over $67,000 to fund the effort.  FG sets up joint committee to strengthen leasing regulation The Federal Government, through the Equipment Leasing Registration Authority (ELRA) and the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), has set up a seven-member strategy and implementation committee to strengthen regulation of Nigeria’s leasing industry. The Registrar/CEO of ELRA, Mr Donald Wokoma to have said during a courtesy visit to the Director-General BPP, Dr Adebowale Adedokun, that the committee would ensure that all leasing companies comply with statutory registration requirement. Wokoma emphasised the importance of enforcing this regulation, stating, “We must ensure that only duly registered and compliant leasing firms are allowed to operate, especially where public funds are involved.  "This is about enforcing the law, protecting public interest, and fostering professionalism within the industry.” He said a key decision from the meeting was that possession of ELRA’s registration certificate would now be mandatory...

King has finally been discovered, the Wisconsin Underwater Archeology Association announced. The 144-foot wooden vessel, which sank during a powerful storm in September 1886, was located near the Wisconsin-Michigan border using sonar and remotely operated vehicles. The F.J. King had sailed for 19 years before breaking apart, with debris spotted by lighthouse keepers and fishermen in the days following the sinking. Photos released by researchers show the ship largely intact, more than 120 feet below the lake’s surface. Historians note the vessel was carrying iron at the time, a common cargo alongside grain, wood, and other products. The National Park Service estimates that around 6,000 ships were damaged or destroyed on the Great Lakes during the 1800s, many of which remain undiscovered.
