 House of ‎Reps move to strip president of power to appoint INEC chairman ‎ ‎The House of Representatives Committee on Constitution Review is considering a bill seeking to amend the constitution to reform the mode of appointing the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission by involving the National Judicial Council. ‎ ‎The proposed amendment aims to involve the NJC in the selection of the INEC chairman, thereby enhancing the independence, credibility, and transparency of the appointment process. ‎ ‎The panel recommended that the power to appoint the INEC board be transferred from the President to the NJC, while its funding was to be a first-line charge on the Consolidated Revenue of the Federation. ‎

 IRANIAN PRESIDENT SUFFERS LEG INJURY FROM ISRAELI MISSILES  The president of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, was reportedly injured by Israeli missiles during a top government meeting on June 16, 2025. According to government agencies, Pezeshkian and a few other members of the Supreme National Security Council were injured during a meeting in Tehran after six Israeli missiles hit their location. Pezeshkian was allegedly wounded in the leg and managed to escape via an emergency hatch. Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and judiciary chief Mohseni Ejei were also at the meeting. “The attackers targeted the building’s entrances and exits by firing six bombs or missiles to block escape routes and cut off air flow," the source said. "After the explosions, the electricity on the floor was cut off."

 NIGERIAN RAILWAY CORPORATION COMMENCES DAILY TRAIN SERVICES IN JOS 13th July, 2025       The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the commencement of daily passenger train services along the Jos–Bukuru corridor, starting Monday, July 14, 2025. The long-anticipated service will operate four daily trips between the Bukuru Station and Jos Terminus, with scheduled stops at Old Airport and Dogon Karfe stations. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to improve urban mobility and enhance public transportation within Plateau State. According to the schedule released by the NRC, the first trip departs Bukuru at 6:50 a.m., stopping at Old Airport at 7:08 a.m., Dogon Karfe at 7:16 a.m., and arriving at Jos Terminus by 7:26 a.m. The return trip from Jos begins at 9:20 a.m., with the final evening departure scheduled for 4:20 p.m. from Jos Terminus to Bukuru.
