 Akwa Ibom Governor Dissolves All Statutory and Non-Statutory Boards, Commissions Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has dissolved all statutory and non-statutory boards and commissions in the state with immediate effect, according to an announcement made on Thursday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Enobong Uwah, in Uyo, the state capital. The decision, enacted under the Statutory Boards (Special Provisions) Law, 2023, was communicated by Uwah, who directed chairpersons of the affected agencies to hand over all government property in their custody to the most senior officer in their respective establishments. Uwah conveyed Governor Eno’s appreciation to the members of the dissolved boards and commissions for their contributions toward the state’s ARISE agenda. “The governor wishes members of the dissolved boards and commissions well in their future endeavours and commends them for the roles they have played,” the SSG stated.  EFCC Arraigns Woman for N240.5m Forex Fraud in Abuja The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, October 2, 2025, arraigned one Ene Queen Bamaiyi before Justice A.A. Halilu of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court, Apo, Abuja, on a one-count charge of criminal breach of trust to the tune of N240,500,000 (Two Hundred and Forty Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira). Bamaiyi was alleged to have dishonestly converted to personal use, the sum of N124,000,000 (One Hundred and Twenty-Four Million Naira) out of the sum of N240,500,000, entrusted to her by one Bright Okubo for foreign exchange conversion.  EFCC Arrests 42 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Gashua Operatives of the Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested 42 suspected internet fraudsters in Gashua Local Government Area of Yobe State. They were arrested in a sting operation on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at different locations within Gashua, following credible intelligence on their involvement in computer-related crimes. Items recovered from them include seven  motorcycles, one Mercedes Benz car, fifty-five (55) phones and laptops, as well as playstation 5 (PS5) and playstation 4 (PS4) consoles respectively. Intelligence available to the Commission linked the suspects with various forms of internet-related fraud. They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded. More photos below.

 FLOOD ALERT: COMMUNITIES ALONG BANKS OF RIVERS NIGER AND KADUNA TO MOVE TO SAFER GROUNDS - NSEMA  The Nigerian Hydrological Services has advised Communities along River Niger and Kaduna to relocate to safer grounds already identified. The Agency's warning is coming as a result of discharge of  water from Kainji, Shiroro, Zungeru and Jebba hydro Dams located in Niger state. Tennessee court sets execution date for the state’s only woman on death row and 3 male inmates The Tennessee Supreme Court on Tuesday set execution dates for four people, including the only woman in the state on death row. Christa Pike received the death sentence at age 18 for the 1995 torture slaying of Colleen Slemmer, who was a fellow Knoxville Job Corps student. Slemmer, 18, was stabbed and beaten by Pike and Tadaryl Shipp, Pike’s boyfriend at the time, on the University of Tennessee’s Agricultural campus. They carved a pentagram into Slemmer’s chest, and investigators claimed Pike took a piece of the victim’s skull for a souvenir. Shipp, of Memphis, was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole. The move was disclosed at a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the Edo State Inland Revenue Service in Benin on Tuesday, which brought together top government officials and representatives of ministries, departments, and agencies.  Nigeria Immigration Service begins crackdown on foreigners with expired visas The Nigeria Immigration Service has commenced a nationwide crackdown on foreign nationals who have overstayed their visas or breached entry conditions, following the expiration of a three-month amnesty granted by the Federal Government. The amnesty, which opened on July 5 and lapsed at midnight on September 30, allowed foreigners with irregular immigration status to regularise their stay without penalties. “With the expiration of the amnesty period, effective October 1, 2025, enforcement actions will commence nationwide against foreign nationals who have overstayed their visa or violated their entry conditions,” NIS spokesperson, Akinsola Akinlabi, said in a statement on Wednesday. The Director-General of the agency, Binta Adamu Bello, personally led the raid on Wednesday after receiving intelligence about the arrival of suspected traffickers and their victims at the airport.  NEMA confirms 24 rescued, 42 missing in Kogi boat mishap The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that 24 passengers were rescued from the Kogi boat mishap. In a post on Thursday, NEMA said 42 persons remained missing as search and rescue operations continue. According to the agency, the incident occurred on Tuesday evening when a boat carrying about 80 passengers capsized on the River Niger.  Over 35% of Nigerian children face malnutrition – NARD The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has said that over 35 per cent of Nigerian children under five years are affected by malnutrition, describing the menace as a critical public health challenge. In a post on X on Thursday, NARD said over 35 per cent of children under five are affected. “Malnutrition contributes significantly to child mortality. It also impacts cognitive development, disease susceptibility, and national productivity,” the association added. NARD stated that interventions include Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) distribution, community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM), and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) counselling.  Court Dismisses Suit Against Rivers State Emergency Rule   Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out a suit challenging the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. The case was filed by Belema Briggs and four others, who sought to nullify President Bola Tinubu’s proclamation. However, Justice Omotosho ruled that the plaintiffs lacked the legal standing to bring the matter before the court. According to the judge, only the Supreme Court has the jurisdiction to determine such a case, and none of the plaintiffs were members of the state executive, legislature, or directly affected by the proclamation.
