If not, we go to sleep without dinner or light.” Her family has been without electricity since the war began over two years ago, initially relying on candles in their displacement tent in Rafah. Nichols, convicted in 1990 of raping and murdering 21-year-old Chattanooga State University student Karen Pulley, has two weeks to change his decision, according to the Tennessee Department of Corrections. Nichols had previously opted for the electric chair in 2020, but his execution was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Under state law, inmates convicted before January 1999 may choose electrocution instead of lethal injection. Nichols’ case comes amid ongoing scrutiny of Tennessee’s execution methods....

MLB AND SPORTSBOOKS LIMIT WAGERS ON INDIVIDUAL PITCHES AFTER RIGGING SCANDAL. (PHOTO).

Image
MLB and sportsbooks limit wagers on individual pitches after rigging scandal Major League Baseball announced new restrictions on betting involving individual pitches, setting a $200 cap and banning those wagers from being included in parlays. The move comes just one day after two Cleveland Guardians pitchers were indicted on allegations of manipulating pitches for gamblers. The league said the policy was developed in coordination with major sportsbook operators that collectively make up more than 98% of the U.S. betting market. According to MLB, bets on single-pitch outcomes such as velocity, strikes, and balls pose heightened integrity risks because they can be influenced by a single player and may have little bearing on the game’s overall result. The league stated that limiting payouts and prohibiting parlays will reduce incentives for misconduct and strengthen safeguards against potential manipulation. The new agreement includes major betting operators such as DraftKings, FanDu...

Families sue Camp Mystic in Texas, alleging it ignored flood dangers that led to deaths Families of victims who died during the July 4 flooding at Camp Mystic in Texas have filed a lawsuit accusing the camp’s operators of ignoring clear safety risks and failing to protect children and staff as deadly waters swept through the property. The lawsuit, filed Monday in state court in Austin, alleges that the camp prioritized property and profit over safety, leaving girls and counselors trapped in flood-prone cabins along the Guadalupe River. Plaintiffs say a groundskeeper was ordered to spend more than an hour securing equipment rather than helping to evacuate campers, while those in the most vulnerable cabins were told to remain inside despite rapidly rising water. The families of five campers and two counselors who died are seeking more than $1 million in damages. The legal complaint also claims the camp violated state safety regulations by not having an evacuation plan and by institu...

Man pardoned by Trump in 'fake electors' case seeks relief for separate assault charge Harrison Floyd, an ex-Marine and former Trump campaign staffer, may benefit from a broader effect of President Donald Trump’s sweeping pardon of so-called “fake electors,” his attorney suggested on Monday. Floyd was among 77 individuals pardoned in connection with efforts to challenge the 2020 election, including high-profile figures like Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, Boris Epshteyn, John Eastman, and Mark Meadows. While most pardons addressed state-level cases outside presidential authority, Floyd faces a separate federal charge for allegedly assaulting an FBI agent in 2023. Floyd’s attorney, Carlos J.R. Salvado, said the pardon could plausibly apply to the federal assault case. Floyd is accused of attacking two FBI agents sent to serve a subpoena as part of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into 2020 election subversion. Reports indicate Floyd body-slammed one agent and shouted ob...
