 Firefighters battle forest fire in northern Morocco amid heat wave Moroccan firefighters continued their efforts on Sunday to extinguish a raging forest fire in the country's northern Chefchaouen province, Anadolu Agency reported. An official from Morocco's National Agency for Waters and Forests said in press statements cited by local media that the fire first erupted on Thursday in the Bouhachem forest in the province amid soaring temperatures. He said the blaze has burned an area of around 180 hectares of land. No casualties have so far been reported.  Two women rescued from hot tub at secluded cabin A friend’s trip to a remote cabin in Kentucky’s Red River Gorge nearly turned deadly when two women in their 80s spent too long in a hot tub and developed hyperthermia, a condition in which the body overheats and cannot cool itself. The women were unable to get out of the tub due to pre-existing mobility issues, and a third woman in the tub helped keep their heads above water while a fourth called for help.  Serial Rapist Sentenced to 25 Years in Prison The Polokwane High Court has sentenced 41-year-old Sipho Justice Machete to an effective 25 years imprisonment on Tuesday, 19 August 2025, for a series of crimes committed over 14 years. Machete was convicted on nine counts of rape, multiple counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances, and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm. His crimes, committed between 2005 and 2019, mainly targeted women and children aged between 14 and 58 in the Tzaneen, Modjadjiskloof, and Bolobedu areas under the Mopani District. The court heard that Machete ambushed victims along pathways at night and in the early hours of the morning, hiding in bushes and attacking them with knives and stones. He would threaten, assault, rape, and rob his victims before fleeing the scenes.  Alleged Criminal Syndicate Members Gunned Down in Mpumalanga Police in Calcutta are investigating three counts of murder after three men, alleged to be part of a Pretoria-based criminal syndicate, were shot and killed in Mkhuhlu (Rozol) near Bushbuckridge. The incident happened on Friday, 22 August 2025, around 11h00. The victims, including Wilfred Owami Dludlu, were travelling in a charcoal Mercedes-Benz with Gauteng registration plates when unknown suspects opened fire, riddling the vehicle with bullets. Police and medical personnel rushed to the scene near Mkhuhlu Hospital, where two of the victims were certified dead on arrival. The third victim was taken to hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. Several spent cartridges were recovered at the scene. No arrests have been made. The cause of Death of Jerry Adler,  The Sopranos Star Jerry Adler, the veteran actor who famously starred in The Sopranos, died Saturday, his family announced he was 96. Adler was born in Brooklyn and died surrounded by loved ones in New York City. His death announcement stated proudly, “Jerry was a resident of New York, New York.” He famously played the Jewish consigliere “Herman ‘Hesh’ Rabkin” on The Sopranos, appearing in 28 episodes across all six seasons .  VDM GOES AFTER KIDNAPPERS IN EDO STATE Controversial social activist, Verydarkman, on Saturday ran into kidnappers blocking a major road in Edo State.  The activist and his team joined police patrol vehicles and went after the broad day criminals operating on a road.  VDM and the police reportedly shot down one of the kidnappers and rescued an hostage that had been shot.  Nigerians are reacting differently to the high-speed chase VDM and the police gave the criminals. Some praised him for his bravery and others said he was only creating social media content. 

 Sunita Ahuja has officially filed for divorce from her husband Govinda at the Bandra Family Court, citing adultery, cruelty and desertion as the grounds for seeking separation.  The petition was submitted on December 5, 2024, under Section 13 of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955. According to reports, the court had initially summoned Govinda to appear, but he failed to respond until a notice to show cause was issued in May 2025.  In a tragic incident, a young man lost his life after being brutally assaulted following a road accident in Baksa district’s Bogamati on August 20.  The victim, identified as Abhishek Das, was returning from Bogamati’s Grassland along with three friends when the accident occurred at Bharali Chowk. Their car, while trying to avoid hitting an e-rickshaw, crashed into a roadside shop pillar, causing the doors of the vehicle to jam. According to eyewitnesses and family members, Abhishek managed to climb out of the car through the sunroof after the crash.  Hospital shelled in Sudan's North Darfur, eight people abducted Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) allegedly shelled a hospital in North Darfur's besieged city of El-Fasher and abducted six women and two children from a displacement camp, rescuers and a medic said on Sunday, AFP reported. El-Fasher, under RSF siege for over a year, is the last major city in western Darfur still held by the army and a flashpoint in the war that erupted in April 2023.  Migrants from North Africa missing after leaping from boat near Spain’s Balearic Islands Twelve migrants are missing after having leapt from a boat while heading for Spain's Balearic archipelago in the Mediterranean, the authorities have said. Another 14 migrants were rescued from the same vessel 58 kilometres southeast of the island of Cabrera, local officials said, TRT Afrika reported. The rescued migrants told officials that 12 passengers had leapt from the boat on Friday, the local authority said in a statement. Spain's civil guard and the coastguard were searching for the missing people, who were from North Africa, the statement added. The migration route from North Africa to the Balearics has seen a surge this year, according to interior ministry figures.
