 Kebbi Govt Donates 10 Hilux Vehicles to Boost Security on Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway  The Kebbi State Government has handed over 10 brand-new Hilux vehicles to the Federal Ministry of Works to strengthen security for personnel working on the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway project. The vehicles were formally received by the Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, who praised Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasiru Idris (Kauran Gwandu), for the donation. Goronyo described the gesture as a clear demonstration of the state government’s commitment to protecting workers and contractors on the strategic highway corridor.  Ghana begins inquiry on helicopter crash that killed ministers Investigations have started into the cause of a military helicopter crash in Ghana which killed all eight people on board, including two government ministers, TRT Afrika reported. Defence Minister Edward Kofi Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed were among those killed when the aircraft crashed early this month in the central Ashanti region.  The defence ministry said on Monday that a board set up to investigate the crash had commenced work and has 30 days to submit its report, the Ghana News Agency reports.  The board includes technical staff from the Ghana Air Force and the civil aviation regulator, a statement from the military is quoted as saying.  It will be assisted by investigators from the US Air Force and may invite other technical personnel to join the investigation.  Authorities previously said that the Z-9 helicopter that crashed was used as a utility helicopter...

 One Zimbabwean, One South African Arrested for Illicit Cigarette Smuggling in Polokwane A 31-year-old South African man and a 28-year-old Zimbabwean national, who is in the country illegally, are set to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 27 August 2025. The pair were arrested for dealing in illicit cigarettes and contravening the Immigration Act 13 of 2002. Their arrest followed a successful Anti-Smuggling Operation on Tuesday, 26 August 2025. Members of the Limpopo Tracking Team, Provincial Intervention Unit (PIU), and Tshimollo Security and Investigation acted on intelligence about a vehicle transporting illicit goods from Beitbridge to Polokwane. A silver Toyota Corolla matching the description was spotted on the N1 North. After a high-speed chase, the car was intercepted near Mall of the North.  One-Year-Old Child Dies After Mattress Accident in Phalaborwa A tragic incident has claimed the life of a one-year-old child in Humulani, Lulekani, Phalaborwa. According to reports, the child was playing with a three-year-old when a mattress fell on top of him. The caregiver searched for the child and, after failing to locate him, eventually discovered him under the mattress where he had suffocated. Police investigations into the incident are continuing.

 Three Suspects on the Run After Ethiopian Man Beaten to Death in Lulekani Police in Lulekani have launched a manhunt for three Ethiopian nationals after their countryman was beaten to death. It is alleged that the victim, an Ethiopian shop owner operating several shops in the area, was attacked by four of his countrymen. He later succumbed to his injuries. One of the suspects has handed himself over to the police, while the other three are still on the run. Police investigations are continuing.

 INEC Raises Concern Over 360,000 Uncollected PVCs in Osun The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that 360,794 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) remain uncollected in Osun State. Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, described the figure as worrisome and urged eligible voters to use the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to collect their cards at designated offices. He warned against multiple registrations, noting that unclaimed PVCs mean thousands of excluded voices in the democratic process, and called on political parties, civil society, religious and traditional leaders to mobilise citizens for prompt collection.

They were ambushed while returning from a naming ceremony after Sunday service. Vigilantes and security forces are trailing the abductors, while the church has declared prayers and fasting for their release. The Igala Cultural Development Association and Ukomu Igala urged the state government to deploy drone technology to combat kidnappers hiding in forests.

The Foreign Ministry clarified on Monday that the initiative, launched at TICAD 9, is aimed at promoting cultural and developmental exchanges between African nations and four Japanese cities, including Kisarazu, but does not include immigration or visa privileges. This contradicts earlier Nigerian government claims that the programme involved a special visa category for skilled workers.

 NEMA DG Leads Response to Abuja–Kaduna Train Derailment The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Zubaida Umar, led the Agency’s rescue team to the site of a train derailment along the Abuja–Kaduna rail line close to the Idda sub-station.  The incident occurred at 11a.m (local time) Teusday. Although no fatalities were recorded, seven passengers sustained varying degrees of injury. They were promptly administered first aid at the scene before being taken to hospital for further medical attention. The rescue operation was a multi-agency effort coordinated by NEMA, with the swift support of the Nigerian military, the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Immigration Service, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps  whose vigilance and rapid response led to the smooth conduct  of the operation.

 Benue Assembly Confirms Timothy Ornguga as Commissioner, Reversing Previous Rejection The Benue State House of Assembly on Tuesday confirmed Timothy Ornguga, a law lecturer at Benue State University, as a commissioner, overturning his rejection the previous week under former Speaker Aondona Dajoh, who resigned days later. The confirmation followed a letter from Governor Hyacinth Alia, read by the new Speaker, Alfred Berger, during a plenary session. Berger also screened four other nominees alongside Ornguga. He noted that Governor Alia believes none of the nominees had been convicted of any crimes, despite petitions against their nominations, urging the Assembly to clear them.  A Florida woman is facing homicide charges after pouring acid on a sleeping man. A New Port Richey man who suffered severe chemical burns on Thursday, August 21st, has died. According to New Port Richey Police, officers responded to a home on Slippery Rock Road after 50-year-old Chuanying He placed a 911 call on Thursday evening. Police arrived on the scene to find an unidentified man suffering from severe chemical burns.  The man was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital, where he passed away from his injuries two days later.  Police say Chuanying He intentionally poured acid on the man while he was sleeping. She then barricaded the door, trapping the man inside of the room before calling 911.  Authorities are not releasing the connection between Chuanying and the victim but have described the attack as a domestic incident.  Chuanying He is facing charges of first-degree homicide and aggravated battery, causing serious bodily harm.

 Ohio Amish woman facing charges in the deaths of her husband and 4-year-old son after a weekend camping trip fraught with "spiritual delusion". 45-year-old Marcus Miller and his  wife took their family for a camping trip over the weekend. However, it does not seem like their intentions were for a fun filled weekend. The two set out with their 4-year-old son, two 18-year-old twin sons, and a 15-year-old daughter to camp at Atwood Lake.  By Saturday morning, two family members would be deceased. The situation began to spiral out of control at about 1 a.m. Saturday morning, when Marcus and his wife went to the lakes dock and jumped into the water, believing they were proving their faith to god. After spending some time in the water, Marcus got out and informed his family that he was going back to the lake. 27-year-old woman dies after car plunges into Lagos lagoon A 27-year-old woman, Aisha Maikudi Ibrahim, d!ed after her car reportedly somersaulted and fell into the Lagos Lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge. Family sources said that Ms Ibrahim, who lived in Gbagada, was returning from an event in Ikoyi where she worked as a vendor when the crash occurred on Saturday, August 24, 2025.  “She called her mother around 1 a.m. to say she would be home in 20 minutes,” her aunt, Hadiza Oyewumi, said in a telephone interview with Premium Times on Sunday. “By 2 a.m., her phone was unreachable.  DR Congo summons army commanders over defeat of troops fighting M23 rebels The military in the Democratic Republic of Congo said Monday that 41 senior army officers have been summoned for questioning as part of an investigation into the defeat of government troops during fighting with M23 rebels in the country’s volatile east. Those summoned by the General Inspectorate of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo include 35 generals and six colonels, army spokesman Maj. Gen. Sylvain Ekenge told reporters. He said the process concerns all officers who have assumed command responsibilities since the capture of the border town of Bunagana by the M23 rebels in June 2022, AFP reported.  SANWO-OLU SWEARS IN IFELODUN LCDA CHAIRMAN Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday, swore in the Chairman of the Ifelodun Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Olufemi Akanbi Okeowo, urging him to be committed to governance at the grassroots level. Governor Sanwo-Olu charged Okeowo, who is returning for a second term, to work closely with stakeholders and deliver results that will directly improve the lives of residents of the council. Hon.
