Two studies published on Oct. 22 in Neurology Open Access found links between gum disease, cavities, and increased risks of stroke and brain damage. In the first study, adults with gum disease were more likely to show changes in the white matter of their brains. “Gum disease is associated with higher inflammation, and inflammation has been tied to atherosclerosis as well as hardening of small blood vessels, as we observed in this study,” said Dr. Souvik Sen, a neurology professor at the University of South Carolina.  Zoo works to rescue Florida crocodile injured by spear and bullet in head An 8-foot American crocodile is recovering at Zoo Miami after surviving a severe attack. Officials reported that the crocodile was found on Tuesday in the Florida Keys with a spear embedded in its skull. During further examination, the Zoo Miami team discovered a bullet lodged between her eyes. Despite the injuries, neither appeared to be life-threatening. Led by Dr. Gwen Myers, the veterinary team carefully removed the spear, and by Wednesday, the crocodile was resting and showing signs of recovery. Zoo Miami officials said their goal is to release her back into the wild once she has fully healed. The zoo is working alongside the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which has launched a criminal investigation into the incident. A company claiming to be affiliated to Swiss Stock Exchange has reported vanished after operating a high-yield investment scheme in Ladipo, Lagos, for just two months.  The firm promised investors a 50% return in seven days offering that is for every ₦1million you invest you get ₦1.5 million in 7 days. The company aggressively marketed its offer in Ladipo, targeting traders and business owners. Several individuals reportedly invested large sums, including ₦1.5 million, ₦3 million, ₦5 million, and even ₦60 million. As of today, the company has allegedly disappeared, leaving investors devastated and demanding answers. One trader shared, “They’ve been walking around convincing people, but I paid deaf ears. Authorities report that between June and August, 47 vehicles were taken from Avis Budget Car Rental at Syracuse Hancock International Airport, with a total value exceeding $1 million. Police allege that Milton W. Thompson III, 31, a former employee of the rental company, used his knowledge of the operation to carry out the thefts and rent the cars to customers around Onondaga County. Thompson faces charges including second-degree grand larceny, a Class C felony, and first-degree scheme to defraud, a Class E felony. So far, 42 of the stolen vehicles have been recovered.  Why I rejected idea to make El-Rufai my successor – Obasanjo Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed that he once declined a proposal to support former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as his successor at the end of his tenure in 2007. Obasanjo, on Friday, said he rejected the idea because he believed El-Rufai was not yet mature enough to handle the responsibilities of leading the country. El-Rufai, who served under Obasanjo’s administration first as Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises and later as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, was among the prominent figures in his cabinet between 1999 and 2007. Speaking during the second edition of the Ajibosin Platform Annual Symposium in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Obasanjo disclosed that former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, recommended El-Rufai as his potential successor.
