It’s painful Awujale dined with traditionalists but chose Muslim burial – Chief priest In this interview with BANKOLE TAIWO, the Olowa Iberu and Chief Priest of Ijebuland, Chief Rasaki Osimodi, discusses the frustration of traditionalists who were barred by soldiers from performing the burial rites for the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 91 What sort of relationship existed between the departed Awujale and the traditionalists? I am the chief priest of the Obinrin Ojowu deity for the immediate past Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona. I am also one of the kingmakers. To some extent, a relationship existed, but we genuinely cannot say that it was entirely cordial because the royal father condemned many traditional practices. For instance, during the Obinrin Ojowu festival, which I usually coordinate, the custom is for the Awujale to meet with us at Itoro. However, Oba Adetona would not come...

FIFA MAY SHIFT 2026 WORLD CUP MATCHES FROM US TO CANADA OVER VISA CRISIS. (PHOTO).

Image
FIFA may shift 2026 World Cup matches from US to Canada over visa crisis FIFA is considering moving some 2026 World Cup matches out of the United States to Canada over the country’s strict immigration policies. According to reports, the new U.S. visa restrictions have made entry difficult for fans, journalists, and even entire delegations. With over 40 countries currently on the U.S. travel ban list, including Iran supporters of qualified teams may be locked out, leaving stadiums nearly empty. The development has sparked criticism from fans and human rights groups, questioning FIFA’s commitment to inclusion and non-discrimination. Canada is now seen as a safer alternative, offering easier immigration rules, political stability, and strong logistics. While the U.S. still provides financial muscle for the tournament, FIFA faces pressure to protect its values of diversity and accessibility. A decision on whether to shift some matches to Canada is expected soon.

In May, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, had raised an alarm over the complex nature of security challenges facing Abuja and called for a coordinated national approach to address it effectively. At the budget defence for the FCT’s N1.78 trillion estimates, the minister said the FCT’s unique status as the host of the Presidency, National Assembly, and foreign diplomatic missions makes it impossible to run it as an autonomous entity like other states. “You cannot talk about autonomy in a city where the President resides, where the Inspector-General of Police, the National Security Adviser, and every corporate head of th...

Image
ABUJA, FCT JULY 19, 2025 PRESS STATEMENT APC TO ADC - YOUR ATTACK OF STATE BURIAL OF LATE PRESIDENT BUHARI, INSENSITIVE, UNACCEPTABLE Triggered by the dignified state burial of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed on last week, and the show of compassion and support for his bereaved family by the government and people of Nigeria, the African Democratic Party (ADC), in a statement of Friday, July 18, 2025, accused the President Bola Tinubu-led administration of expoliting the late President’s death for political gains.  The party’s criticism of the dignified state burial accorded the late President is as spooky as it is unconscionable. Again, the ADC has showcased itself to be without any understanding of customary state practice, and lacking empathy and essential humanity. It has cut its own portrait as a party of mindless political dregs, a dump of Nigeria’s internally displaced politicians, ready to do or say anything in chase of attention but sinking itse...

Meanwhile, his wife had already contacted local police after waiting alone since 4 a.m. She was later found safe and reunited with her family. What do you think really happened here? Was it an honest mistake or something more?

LET’S BE CLEAR: MR. PETER OBI DOES NOT NEED ANYONE’S PERMISSION TO VISIT EDO STATE OR ANY OTHER STATE FOR THAT MATTER. NOT NOW, NOT EVER- OLUMIDE AKPATA (FORMER NBA CHAIRMAN).(PHOTO).

Image
Let’s be clear: Mr. Peter Obi does not need anyone’s permission to visit Edo State or any other State for that matter. Not now, not ever- Olumide Akpata (Former NBA chairman).. When I first saw the video clip of Governor Monday Okpebholo threatening Mr. Peter Obi not to enter Edo State without his “permission”, I genuinely thought it was fake — perhaps one of those AI-generated videos or a poorly written skit. But it’s now clear it wasn’t fake. The Governor hasn’t denied it, no spokesperson has disowned it, and it’s been reported on credible news platforms. So, we must assume it was real — and that’s deeply troubling. Edo people are known for being warm, open, and hospitable. We welcome visitors. We don’t chase them away — much less someone like Mr. Obi who came to make a modest, generous contribution by donating ₦15 million to an educational institution in our state. Let’s be clear: Mr. Peter Obi does not need anyone’s permission to visit Edo State or any other State for that mat...
