 EFCC to OPAY :  Make Compliance with Regulations Your Watchword The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Ola Olukoyede  has charged the management and staff of Opay   to make compliance with  existing regulations  a watchword to ensure business integrity and block avenues for money laundering and fraudulent practices.  Olukoyede gave the charge in Abuja on Thursday,  December 11, 2025 when the Chief Executive Officer,  CEO,   Opay, Mr. Steven Wen  led other top managers of the financial institution on a courtesy visit to the EFCC headquarters.  EFCC Arraigns Peace Corps Commandant, Director of Finance for  Alleged N60m  The Abuja Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday 11, December, 2025, arraigned the Commandant of the Nigeria Peace Corps, Dickson Akon and the Director of Finance of the Corps, Omolala Aminat Ahmed, before Justice H. B. Yusuf of the Federal Capital Territory,  FCT High Court, Abuja. The defendants were arraigned on a two- count charge bordering on criminal misappropriation of funds allocated to the Corps Charge one reads: “That you, Dickson Akon and Omolola Aminat Ahmed   in the year 2024 at Abuja, FCT,  within the jurisdiction of this honorable court did agree among yourselves to do an illegal act, to wit criminal misappropriation and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 96 of the penal code laws of the FCT.”  Count two read:  “That you, Dickson Akon and Omolola Aminat Ahmed   in the year 2024...

 US Seizes Nigerian-Owned Supertanker Over Alleged Crude Theft The US Coast Guard has seized Skipper, a Nigerian-owned supertanker, over suspected crude theft, piracy, and drug trafficking. Guyana says the vessel was illegally flying its flag. Maritime stakeholders say the incident highlights gaps in Nigeria’s port oversight. The seizure comes amid NEITI’s report that Nigeria lost $3.3bn to crude theft and sabotage in one year.

 At least 200 soldiers from Nigeria, Côte d'Ivoire in Benin for 'clean-up' after failed coup Some 200 Nigerian and Côte d'Ivoire troops are in Benin as part of a security mission supporting the government after a weekend coup attempt, the country's foreign minister said, AFP reported. Benin was rocked by a failed putsch on Sunday, which saw Nigeria and Côte d'Ivoire mobilise in support of the civilian government. "There are currently around 200 soldiers present, who came to lend a hand at the end of the day to the Beninese defence and security forces as part of the sweep and clean-up operation," Olushegun Adjadi Bakari told reporters at a press conference in the Nigerian capital.  Senegal rows back on minister comments about nationalisation of gas field as end of license looms Senegal's energy ministry on Thursday rowed back on previous comments from its minister that it planned to nationalise the Yakaar-Teranga gas field, of which U.S. firm Kosmos owns 90%, with both parties indicating the licence would be returned to the state by next July. Senegal's Energy Minister Birame Souleye Diop said on Tuesday that the government wanted to nationalise Yakaar-Teranga, where state-run Petrosen holds the remaining 10% stake. The two companies have been looking for at least one more partner to enter the project in order to progress a development plan but no breakthrough has been reached yet. Kosmos became the operator of the Yakaar-Teranga gas field in 2023 after BP decided to exit. The company's licence for the field runs out in July 2026.  France's central bank accused of complicity in Tutsi genocide in Rwanda New allegations have placed the Bank of France under scrutiny, as human rights advocates and researchers accuse it of playing an indirect but significant role in events leading up to the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. A report by Libération and the investigative unit of Radio France said a new complaint alleging complicity in genocide and crimes against humanity was filed on December 4 with the senior investigating judge of a Paris court’s unit for crimes against humanity. The complaint was filed by attorneys Matilda Ferey and Joseph Breham on behalf of three civil parties – Dafroza and Alain Gauthier, along with the Collective of Civil Parties for Rwanda (CPCR), Anadolu Agency reported.
